I saw Detour on The Criterion Channel. Wow, what a wonderful experience. The film doesn't hold its punches and it keeps you guessing if what you are seeing it's really true. Bad luck? Delusion? You don't really know or trust what Roberts is saying. And once Ann Savage's Vera enters the picture, she takes complete command of it. An amazing, wild and powerful performance. I'm definitely adding it to my collection in July!

Just finished Part I of Krzysztof Kieślowski‘s Dekalog. What did I just watch?

Even though I much prefer physical than digital, I would gladly support their new platform if they had a streaming app on PS4 or XB1. I refuse to watch movies on a computer/tablet/mobile screen. Maybe down the road.

In other news, not sure if this was mentioned or not, but it looks like Picnic at Hanging Rock & Fantastic Mr. Fox are getting BD-only releases. They are both on coming soon page and both of their pages have the combo as "not available".

I'm planning on getting a Roku or Amazon fire stick to watch the Criterion channel on. Just waiting to see which platform it runs best on.

Try turning on the subtitles.

I hope at least one of my devices works without (significant) issue. Had some problems with FilmStruck, and it was indeed only one device that actually worked fairly well most of the time. (The one that worked best was old Roku 3.)

Regarding Criterion Channel content, good thing there were gobs of not on disc Japanese (and likely many other) titles in their back-catalog that I didn't get a chance to watch. Aside from the small trickle of pleasant surprises in April, was hoping for a bigger flow of non-Criterion content on the more obscure (aka foreign) side. Maybe with time there will be so many I won't be able to keep up, like with FilmStruck.

Can you get the Criterion Channel on a 4KTV with built-in streaming or just on a separate streaming device?

I wonder if Hour of the Wolf will get a stand-alone Blu-Ray release or not?

Glad I got Picnic at Hanging Rock. I imagine the blu-ray only version won’t have the book.

They kept the book with Red River, and I would bet they do the same here.

FilmStruck was close to impossible to watch on my 3 year old Roku . I won't get the Criterion Channel until I hear some positive reports about it's use on older Rokus. (Watch TCM is also useless on my Roku- a shame)

I would def take Mr. Fox in a plastic case. That digipak is huge.

I just watched disc 1 of this last week for the first time also. Parts 1-4 were great, absolutely riveting. Part 5 was good too but the weakest to me...either way, I can't wait to see the rest. I got this on blu-ray from Netflix, btw.

It reminded me that I need to pick up his "Three Colors" trilogy also; I haven't seen those in like 25 years, and it was on VHS at that. Really helped open me up to foreign films though, I'm sure I'd appreciate them even more now.

The only other release of Night on Earth that I currently have in my library is this Region-B release that Soda Pictures produced in 2015. After performing some direct comparisons tonight, I think that the same remaster was also used for this upcoming release.
Bummer. This seems to be one of those cases where it's a no brainer just to opt for the cheaper release (unless you value the Q&A and commentary track). I'm pretty sure I got that Soda release for under $10

How about a compromise? I'll continue to nag....I mean, gently encourage Criterion until they release Paper Moon for us.

I can go all "Jessica Chastain in Zero Dark Thirty" if need be. Just give me a marker.

Also, when Vampyr was released on blu-ray in October of 2017, they included the book containing the screenplay written by Carl Th. Dreyer and Christen Jul, as they'd done for the DVD release.

Agreed about the Roku.

The one I have, the 2XS, is seven year old technology (God, where does the time go?? Seems like I just bought it yesterday). It's fine for streaming Amazon Prime, Netflix, Hulu, HBO Go, Showtime Anytime, Starz Play...but the last time I did MLB.tv three years ago, I had all sorts of buffering issues. I'm wanting to do another subscription this year once I get a bit more caught up on my movies. Maybe a month into the season. So, I'll need to upgrade my Roku, too. Before I would add the Criterion Channel, I want to know that it's a seamless experience.

I've put together what I think is a pretty substantial Criterion collection. Between single releases and box sets, I'm over 200 films on blu-ray now. And, I'll be putting in orders like this last one during the Flash Sale on a consistent basis as I get ready to start writing. Being able to stream in advance of buying would really help me prioritize what I buy when.
