You ever watch a movie and think to yourself, I don't think I really like this film, and then when it's over you can't stop thinking about it and then think to yourself, I really liked that movie? I just had that experinced with Polanski's Cul-de-sac.

It's not my favorite Polanski film, but it's pretty good. I gotta remember that bicycle gag.

Speaking of region-free players, despite having hacked my PS3 to do it a year ago I spotted and grabbed one of those "region free" Panasonic players at a thrift store yesterday for $14. It's the DMP-BD30. I don't even have to do any button combos or anything with it; disc gets rejected and won't play. I hit top-menu and it immediately boots to the menu. Every disc out of my small region B collection has played. It's pretty excellent!

For those of you looking for a cheap solution these can be had for $30 and under on eBay. Very worth it. I'm keeping mine as back-up.

I've had my Panasonic DMP-DB80 for almost a decade but I never bothered to try the top menu trick until after I bought a region free player. All my Arrow and Eureka discs play perfectly. I still keep my region free player as a backup player in general because SC/Optimum discs are the biggest mixed bags with my Panasonic.

I have the Kino release of it. If I end up really loving it, and the MoC has extra bonuses, I’ll probably grab it, too.

I noticed Picnic at Hanging Rock is getting re-released on Tuesday. Do we know for sure if it’s coming with the book? I’m fine with no dvds since they serve no purpose for me but I would like to have the book.

Had the old version but my dog ate the book when, like a fool, I left it on my low coffee table lol

Looks like no. From the site:

“PLUS: A booklet featuring an essay by author Megan Abbott and an excerpt from film scholar Marek Haltof’s 1996 book Peter Weir: When Cultures Collide (dual-format only); a new paperback edition of Lindsay’s novel, previously out of print in the U.S. (dual-format only)”

That's old. They haven't updated it yet. The original release was in both dual-format and dvd-only. The book/booklet was only included in the dual-format.

Is it just or does anyone else miss the April Fool's day title announcements? Each year someone makes an April Fool's joke but I don't think that there's ever been a better tease than the cover art for Ivan Reitman's classic police saga. Follow the link for a list of features included on the THREE DISC BLU-RAY EDITION.

I know CC knows about it but... I'd kind of kill for them to release Good Burger. They still enjoy the joke about it. I'd love it if they double down on the joke by making a reality. Man, back in the day when we saw that image of Good Burger as a CC DVD. Hahaha. Great joke. Looked so real.

That is hilarious... The Room is such a cult classic, it might somehow makes its way into something like Criterion someday, who knows.

I ordered Gilda and Rebecca , Criterion Collection today from Amazon. I’d like to get Notorious, Repo Man, and Night of the Living Dead next.

I actually want this. I'm being serious.

Funny, as about 1/2 the film was shot 720p digital and 1/2 35mm, so a 4K release would have to be partially upscaled.
