Unfortunately that means I only have 9 days, so I need to get on that.
I’d recommend savoring the show and not trying to compress it into less than two weeks if this is your first watch.

Yeah, I agree. If he's never watched the show before, nine days before the final season starts is way, way too late to begin. There are 67 episodes. That's over 7 hours a day to get caught up.

I would expect the first episode of the final season to be a lot of "reminding the casual viewers where every character is" and "setting in motion the themes and events for the final season", so Aaron, you can give at least yourself an extra week and it's unlikely (based on all the previous seasons) that there will be a big event that would get spoiled in the first episode. (I'll be watching it live just in case, but I'm all caught up already.)

I wouldn't. There are only six episodes remaining, and HBO's per episode cost has skyrocketed to over $15 million. Each episode is going to be absolutely packed. Some might extend beyond the standard hour run time, but you're not looking at much more than 8 hours total to wrap the series, and tie off all the narrative loose ends. There's simply too much ground to cover to waste any time on holding the hands of people that haven't been paying attention.

It's been nearly twenty months since episode seven of season seven aired. Not to offend anybody, but if you're waiting less than two weeks before the last season to start watching the show, you've simply waited too long. There's no way to watch all the episodes, and comprehend all that's going on, in nine days.

Well, we'll see how the spoilers go. If it seems like I can avoid them, then I'll take a bit more time. But 7 hours a day is a bit much come to think of it.

Aaron, I’m thrilled that you want to watch Game of Thrones. There’s always room for one more fan, and I know you’ll be glad you jumped in. It’s an incredible ride!

But I want you to enjoy it, and if you’re having to rush through the experience, it will start to feel like work after a while. There are so many characters, a good number of families, and a whole history of Westeros to absorb, not to mention going all the way back to the first men.

If you start now, and watch it religiously (without overdoing it), you can watch the final few episodes with everybody as they happen. If you watched three hours a day (doable with some discipline), you could be caught up by episode three. If you spread it out by one more week, you can watch the final three episodes in real time. IMDb has the air dates for all the episodes. Plan your schedule according to what you feel comfortable with.

Oh, and by the way, HBO is already in production on an as of yet unnamed GoT prequel. One of the stars is Naomi Watts.

You people make it sound like they’re releasing public domain quality stuff. I’m pretty sure most people would consider the vast majority of what they do “good PQ” because it is. MOC just released Irma La Douce. It doesn’t look any different than the Kino. In other cases most differences are exceedingly minor.

I’ll give you supplements but that isn’t always the case (and, frankly, most supplements are tedious, redundant, and uninformative anyway.)

Fans have been begging Criterion to release Lost Highway for years, and for whatever reasons, they've passed. I applaud Kino for grabbing the ball. If Criterion wants to release a better version in 10 years, I'll give it a look.

Watched Kiss Me Deadly for the first time last night. Wow, this one knocked the socks off me! Probably, of of the finest noir films I've seen thus far. I couldn't help but think from the characters to the various themes within, this film seems to has been an influence on Lynch, though I've never read it influenced him in any way. In any case, what a trip.

Well, it definitely influenced Quentin Tarantino's Pulp Fiction.

It’s better to risk getting a few spoilers than to binge it like that IMO.

Damn, I am trying to thin my collection right now and then I saw your post, looked up the film and now I HAVE to have it. I love Robert Aldrich but have never seen this for some reason. Now I am up to about $200.00 I will be spending at the next Barnes & Noble sale. Thank you for bringing it to my attention. I look forward to adding this to my Robert Aldrich collection. I am still waiting for a better release of Vera Cruz and blu rays of 4 for Texas, The Longest Yard and Hustle....

One of my favourite videos on YouTube is

I still want to see Criterion release more horror movies. My horror movie picks for Criterion to release:

Blind Beast (1969)
Dawn of the Dead (1978)
Dellamorte Dellamore (1994)
Epidemic (1987)
Irréversible (2002)
The Masque of the Red Death (1964)
Mystery of the Wax Museum (1933)
Night of the Demon (1957)
Singapore Sling (1990)

As already mentioned, Pulp Fiction and Lost Highway definitely were influenced by that movie. And, if you don't see the direct references to it in Se7en, Raiders of the Lost Ark and Repo Man you need to look harder. Easily my favorite noir and one of my all time favorites. Ralph Meeker is absolutely perfect as Mike Hammer. Just a nasty a-hole. He marches through the movie like bull in china shop.
[Show spoiler]When he breaks that guys prized record and smashes the dudes fingers in the drawer...I mean c'mon!
Plus it is one of the few times you actually see an actual C1 Corvette in a film. This one is a must own as far as I am concerned. Love it, love it, love it.

A few years, I guess it must be about eight years now, when this came out I had only recently upgraded to bluray. My plan was to only buy a film on bluray on occasion and stick to DVD for the most part. I was at HMV and was looking to pick this up on DVD but someone had already bought it, but I saw they still had the bluray in stock so I figured that well I have a bluray player and I really want to own this so I bought it, making it my first Criterion bluray. After that I decided to go all in on bluray and sold off and upgraded all my DVDs, and have far exceeded on bluray the amount of movies I ever owned on DVD. So thank you to the mysterious person who bought the Criterion DVD of Kiss Me Deadly, it’s all your fault!

As for the film, it’s a fantastic noir. It’s so cynical. Ralph Meeker, whose face looks like he has a permanent sneer, is an absolute bastard as Mike Hammer.

That’s how I first heard about it... Siskel and Ebert pointed out that the glowing briefcase in PF seemed to be a reference to the glowing “whatsit” in KMD.
