I thought Meyer's estate was set up in such a way that it's impossible for his films to be licenced out? I would be very happy to be wrong about this, because I'd love to have restored versions of all the RM Films releases. Criterion's Beyond the Valley of the Dolls is excellent, and Vinegar Syndrome's Fanny Hill is a beautiful transfer of a lesser Meyer film. I really hope a box does come to fruition.

Don't tease us like that. That would be bigger than a Godzilla box set....

Cronenberg recently confirmed Crash is in the middle of a restoration, so it's coming soon but no idea from who. I'd place my bets on Criterion or Arrow tbh.

Turbine is releasing it in Germany. No word on other countries, but Criterion is hinting Do the Right Thing, which Turbine also just released.

It's strange but I open each movie when arrive to my hands and already have that, I mean is not my room humidity or something, they arrive to my hands like that.

Same happens with Criterions etc. to all Scanavo cases, even normal BluRays.

Any response to the mistery?

I notice this frequently with cases myself. I've always assumed this was some sort of off-gassing or oxidation of the plastic itself. Stabilizers are added to prevent the degradation of synthetic polymers such as plastic, and I suppose these could be an issue in and of themselves. Softer plastics are more prone to off-gassing - think of that toxic new car smell that everyone loves - and probably contain a higher concentration of these chemicals. Other than that, it's likely simple degradation of some sort. That's my guess anyhow. As to those circles - I can't really muster much of a guess. Probably some mechanical remnant of the manufacturing process - suction lift, perhaps?

My guess is it's outgassing from the plastic. Some plastics exhibit it more than others. And it seems more noticeable on clear plastics, because they're clear.

Anyone know who has the rights to De Sica's Shoeshine? A quick search turned up no Blu-ray releases and three DVDs. One of those was Eureka's Masters of Cinema which was the source of the YouTube video I watched. This seems like a natural for a Criterion spine # but no BD of this anywhere? That really is perplexing. Btw, we need more De Sica.

Is this how Criterion is pronounced and I've been saying it wrong all these years?

It's been driving me crazy since I first discovered this video last night.

(Not sure if someone posted it here or somewhere else, or if I just found it randomly.)

If only there were a source more reliable than a 22 year-old YouTuber for the pronunciation of words...

Surprised he's as old as 22, but maybe I'm the one who is old and everyone below a certain age still looks like a child to me.

Anyway, crisis averted: According to dictionary.com, it's pronounced exactly the way I thought it was.

remember how decisive it was when it came out? People were pissed off and all up in arms. Meanwhile Cronenberg in his amazingly Canadian way is like: what?, I don't give a **** anyway?

Reminds me of Eyes Wide Shut, another movie the zeitgeist got completely wrong and ran with it.

Has there actually been an official statement as to how it is pronounced?

No, because it is an English word in the dictionary, dictionaries include pronunciation keys, and there is no need for an official announcement about how to pronounce a standard English, Greek-derived word when there is a dictionary that tells you that.

To clarify, I have found quite a bit to watch now and take back what I said previously however I was just confused by the lack of certain newer criterion releases, yet I understand about the rights and costs associated

Well the first time I hit play it timed out and the second time it froze up my computer, so much for that.

(I though Safari freeze-ups were peculiar to when I was rushing through trying to install Mojave on top of Sierra (where I am now) too quickly, but I guess not. At least I was able to finally get Mojave running seemingly correctly, but I doubt I wlll try running CC app from Safari again, either here on Sierra or on Mojave. ) (I have an old still pretty awesome Mac Pro that I've been able to keep going for 10 years, Mojave will be the last OS it supports, fwiw. (Though with all those crashes I wasn't so sure about that a few days ago...))

Oh anyway I have Rokus to play with, and an Apple TV, so was just playing around.

Not sure if this has been mentioned but Spike Lee has confirmed Do the Right Thing is coming to Criterion.
