1984, Do The Right Thing, BRD Trilogy upgrade, Europa Europa, and Klute for me! Need to see The Bakers Wife and might end up buying all of them!

I bought the TT Blu of 1984 during a sale for about $14.95. I've noticed that OOP TTs are getting releases through Kino and other outlets, like Fright Night getting a release through Sony after TT's edition went OOP. TT's Limited Editions are not so limited anymore.

My list of Criterions to buy in July is piling up: Do the Right Thing, A Face in the Crowd, Blue Velvet, Detour, Hedwig, In the Heat of the Night, Klute. . .

I'm also eagerly waiting for someone to release Marat/ Sade. It is a fantastic film. Criterion or whoever should get Glenda Jackson to record a commentary track while she's still with us.

I don't see why anyone should be upset about an OOP title coming back in print..How is allowing more people to get the chance to enjoy the film on BD a bad thing? Because it might lessen the value, and/or rarity of your release? Give me a break. I hope Criterion can license as many OOP Twilight Time titles as possible. A title like Leave Her to Heaven for instance badly needs a re-release.

OOP titles coming back in print is a good thing. The burr in my saddle is that I paid too much for a possibly inferior edition due to artificial scarcity and FOMO.

So, for the last few years I've been bolding a title off this list every time it's officially annouced, and I can finally say the entire list is now complete

Dreams (Akira Kurosawa)
Blow Up (Michelangelo Antonioni)
The Breaking Point (Michael Curtiz)
Barcelona (Whit Stillman)
Magnificent Ambersons (Orson Welles)
The Asphalt Jungle (John Huston)
A Face in the Crowd (Elia Kazan)
Klute (Alan Pakula)
Day for Night (Francois Truffaut)
Before Sunset (Richard Linklater)
Cat People (Jacques Tourneur)
Before Sunrise (Richard Linklater)

Day for Night and the Before Trilogy have already been confirmed as future Criterion releases, and Whit Stillman has made no secret of wanting Criterion to release Barcelona so that's also likely.

I'm definitely in for Klute, it's a great film I've been waiting on for a while though if I had to choose, I would prefer that it was the Parallax View getting a blu-ray release.

I'm probably also going to get Do The Right Thing.

I'm fairly certain that the Criterion version of 1984 will be superior. I have the German release from MGM which has the same PQ as the Twilight Time, but I think I'm going to stick with that as I'm not really sure I'd re-watch it enough to make it worth it.

This is a very solid lineup for July. I'm genuinely excited for most of them. I will likely get all of them.

I was considering Cremildo's post at the top of the page who wanted to see it but hadn't, and didn't want to blithely reveal something about the character in question for first-time viewers (along with other members who have had their interest piqued by this announcement but have yet to see it, such as Mose Harper on the Europa Europa thread).

So sorry if that put a bee in your BluBonnet...

Are Klute and BRD trilogy worth checking out? I’m seeing everyone go crazy over them but haven’t ever heard of them.

What other films do we anticipate getting a release this year (due to solid evidence)?

An Angel at My Table
Bamboozled
Bergman titles (standalone releases)
The Cloud-Capped Star/A Soft Note on a Sharp Scale/The Golden Line
Cluny Brown
The Cranes Are Flying
The Eyes of Orson Welles
The Flavor of Green Tea Over Rice
Paris Is Burning
Polyester

Also, here's the latest addition to Janus's website.

In regards to the title- ironically, very true. Unfortunate thing life is, burning away history...

If the Netflix deal goes through, probably Roma and The Ballad of Buster Scruggs.

We should finally be getting The Grand Budapest Hotel this year, too.

I don't see why it wouldn't get a release. It recently toured with a new restoration from Janus Films.

It never got an official tour from Janus but did play in certain theaters (with the Janus page appearing in October). I'm not saying that it won't get a release this year but it's also a good idea to remember that there are titles that have received an actual tour and still haven't been released yet (e.g. Salesman, Fists in the Pocket, The Circus).

Well, Klute is very good at what it sets out do. And it has a cast at the top of its powers. The BRD Trilogy is more of an investment, of course, but it's one which I cannot imagine someone regretting.

I just happened to peruse the new announcements. Saw 1984 on the list and just had to do some kind of happy dance. Yeah, Twilight Time had quite a good edition on the market for a while, but I will gladly triple-dip on it for the new restoration and extras (but might keep the TT version for the alternate music score). It's a solid and essential science fiction story and it's becoming an all-time favorite the more I see it.

Glad to see it in the collection--I hope more like it will pop up on later announcements.

A really stellar month!! I can retire my BRD trilogy for a better one. Perfection would have been a Chaplin release, but I can still hope one of these months....
