Prince of Tides was a Laser Disc title and I've heard reports of restoration from Streisand.

Interesting choice for Criterion. Not a film I thought I'd ever revisit.

Not a film I ever thought of visiting. But I did work enough years in a record store to acknowledge the cult of Streisand. They'll sell a bunch of them and maybe it will sponsor one of my weirdo selections.

Agreed. Why couldn't he be surrounded by an urban landscape. I would have snagged Prince of the City at the first 50% off sale!

I am in desperate need of a Prince of the City Blu-Ray! I’m hoping Criterion or Warner Archive!

Upgrades of Red Beard and The Human] Condition are my new white whales.

I’ll go straight up Mad Queen on the Criterion headquarters if I have to.

I don’t want to, but I will.

...it’s in my blood.

It’s a real terrifying future where we may very well get a Criterion BD-R before we see a UHD.

I honestly don't know how many of their titles I'd want on UHD. The Malicks probably but I've bought and rebought Criterion films on LD, DVD, BD and I've kind of hit the wall with Bluray being my final format. I have a few 4K discs and something like 2001 looks terrific but I'm not sure that a film like The Bicycle Thieves, for example, is going to be a showcase for higher resolution.

Not really, since streaming will rival disc (and currently does already in certain instances) and there will be no need for any sort of disc.

Except that's 100% completely wrong. I've watched 4K streaming that easily surpasses 1080p blu-ray. Whether or not its equal to UHD remains to be seen, but the tech is there and you are sorely mistaken. And since technology - as you and I well know, since you're so well-versed in it - progresses exponentially, it's only a matter of very short time.

This whole "streaming isn't as good" argument is fine if you want to mislead people and keep your pipe dreams hinged to antiquated media, but it simply isn't true, and is complete misinformation if you actually have seen the technology. It's obvious most people haven't and just wish to spout nonsense, but those are the facts.

If this is how you feel, why are you even on this site? If you feel you have to cheerlead streaming, why waste your time on a site called Blu-ray.com? Surely your often self-proclaimed vast expertise and all the eminently condescending contributions it wreaks could be applied on a site dedicated to streaming? Speaking only for myself, if there’s anything I can do to expedite such a transition so those who prefer streaming over physical media can benefit from your obvious enthusiasm for the platform, thereby depriving us here from your frequent joyless odes, please don’t hesitate to ask.
