I know that feeling, I rewatched "The Tarnished Angels" a while ago. I was indifferent when I first watched it but the second viewing I found myself liking it more.

Doubt it. The most strongly rumored for a US release right now is either Shout or, of all labels, Well Go USA. I'm gonna be getting the Second Sight release anyway.

The Grand Budapest Hotel is the Criterion embodiment.

That SHOULD be their 1000 in 4K UHD + 1080p of course. (Their first)

It would be so on the nose, and perfect IMHO for them as a distributor and film fans everywhere.

It's getting the Second Sight treatment with an OCN 4K scan and restoration supervised by the DoP...at least for the theatrical cut, which is really what matters.
But IIRC when Criterion announced NotLD there were some Criterionerds on the forum wondering if they would be able to sit through this film or become too upset by the gore. If those people sat for Dawn... they'd probably pass out into their souffle dishes

Dawn of the Dead isn't that hard to watch compared to Salo.

Where was this complaining about Night of The Living Dead being hard to watch? That’s possibly one of the silliest things I’ve heard here!

Starts June 28th, per people in this thread who spoke to B&N employees.

Weird. I searched B&N, Barnes and Noble, and Barnes and nothing came up. I searched Noble and a bunch of it came up.

I'm thinking this sale, I'll plunge into DVDs that I've been waaiiiitttting toooooo long for upgrades:

The Furies
Spirit of the Beehive
The Last Wave
Onibaba

Maybe these too:
Stray Dog
Drunken Angel
Pickup on South Street

Once these are all upgraded later this year, you can all thank me.

I'd hold off on Kurosawa since it's likely we're getting a Bergman-style box this year or next.

I have to say that Bing Crosby's Man on Fire is nothing at all like Denzel's! What a letdown!

Hopefully B&N will allow shipping to Canada during the sale. Couldn't even order any of the titles available during the 40% off sale they had last week.

Just four.
Not because of lack of interest - it's what I'll be able to afford during the month.

Could someone who loves Crumb kindly explain what they love about it?

Does one have to be familiar with his work as a cartoonist to fully appreciate the doc?

I’ve never been into the world of cartoons myself.

...I prefer stick fighting.

The film has to do with cartoons in that it is Robert Crumb's profession and the thing that seemingly keeps him from going insane, but it is more a study of one of the most dysfunctional families you will ever see. Crumb is a brilliant, but bizarre man. The line that perfectly encapsulates him is when he says, as a child, he was, "sexually attracted to Bugs Bunny." One of his brothers is one of the saddest characters ever captured on screen, just one of those guys who completely let life get away from him. It's a study of incredibly eccentric, but fascinating human beings. It's the antithesis of reality television, which is manufactured reality, but a cold, hard look at a deeply dysfunctional family. It's also incredibly funny if you have a dark sense of humor.
