It's a brilliant documentary and I consider it more about him and his family than his artwork. But focusing on his art would be like watching Salesman for information on door-to-door selling rather than looking it as a portrait of existential crisis.

Since everyone has posted there wish lists I figure I might as well do so. Mine's is going to be pretty light. Just three:

In The Heat of the Night
A Face in the Crowd
The Breakfast Club

I plan to do a lot more during the October flash sale.

I tend to stock up as "catch up" since I rarely buy Criterions outside the four main sales of the year. Which works out since there's all the other labels to follow.

In the Heat of the Night
Detour
The Kid Brother
Blue Velvet
Swing Time
A Face in the Crowd
Police Story
The Heiress
War and Peace

Then I'll be picking up Do the Right Thing, 1984, and Klute as they come out next month.

Same here, never cared much for cartoonists, cartoons, and anything involving comic strips. But this is a documentary for anyone and everyone to watch, as long as they're not repressed, born again Christians who forbid the viewing of smut or television in general. The film by Terry Zwigoff really does not have a single dull moment and to me, its more about the character of Robert Crumb, than what he actually produced in terms of his work. The human perspective of this guy is so damn interesting.

I thought the rape scene in I Spit on Your Grave was worse than the one in Irreversible because it was so long and graphic, but that's just me.

I think they're both pretty horrible.

I think Spine 1000 will be Godzilla because this year is the 65th anniversary and having one big Showa set would be great for the Hoilday season.

I'm not sure if this is the appropriate place to post, but I'm thinking about cutting down on my Blu-ray collection (especially Criterion). How does one go about selling lots of Criterion Blu-rays? Most of them have only been watched once or none at all. I know eBay is always an option but that kind of sucks with the added fees and whatnot. Half Price Books is awful because they'll pay me $10 for a large stack of Blu-rays.

I can't bring myself to cut down my collection at all. It just the whacked out collector's mentality. But I definitely need to find more shelf space, which is going to be a pain in the ass. And then re-ordering everything ... ugh.

Yeah, I can't ever see myself cutting down my collection but its becoming increasingly more and more challenging finding room and I'm going have to invest in more shelf space before the end of the year. Then there's trying to find out where to put said shelf.

Shelf space is always the hardest part. I've cut down on a decent amount of titles that I either double dipped, didn't care for, etc.

Yeah, I have to say that I'm pretty good on not double dipping unless it was such a massive improvement like Criterion's Silence of the Lambs. Generally, I also do a good job on blind buys in that I like them and I try to limit my buying as much as generally possible though I'm not always successful in that endeavor.

I've got way too many double dips right now. Most recently the 15th Anniversary Edition of Mean Girls -- and what makes it even worse is that it's a movie I've seen so many times that I basically know it by heart. Blue Velvet, Black Swan -- the list goes on and on.

And don't even get me started on blind buys. I'm absolutely horrible, and I blame most of those on the posters in this thread.

If they're films I want there's no way in hell I can cut my collection down. I do need to find more shelf space though. Got 2 evergrowing piles of blu rays next to my blu ray rack all begging for spots.

Likewise. Fortunately I have a lot of books I can move into the basement or a cabinet in some comics long boxes. Unfortunately I'm also lazy, so I haven't gotten around to it.

Saw Cassavetes’s Shadows for the third time last night, I‘ve always admired it without really liking it but last night it clicked together a little better for me. It is still a film in which I find that some scenes work really well and quite a few others do not, but the ones that work really are quite memorable.

I also admire its almost casual subtlety in dealing with issues that are dealt with much more heavy handedly in more modern films.

Hey is there a discussion thread setup for the B&N Criterion sale coming up? I don't see one over in the deals subforum.
