In the last two July Barnes & Noble sales I was able to pick up about 30 blu-rays in 2017 and 50 blu-ray titles last year. This year....oh look, I'm almost broke. I decided to pick up Bergman's Film Trilogy since I'll never be able to afford the box now, plus I have 12 films of his already so the double-dipping would be extreme. I'll just get them as they come out separately. The only film of his I'm missing on bd that I used to own either on laserdisc or dvd is Hour of the Wolf. So make that next Criterion, 'ya hear me?

Without derailing the thread, I'm excited to have my ticket to see them live for the first time, in Boston in September. I'm more of a "dabbler" than a diehard fan, but I've been listening to them on-and-off since I first became musically aware back in the mid-70's (my Dad owns a copy of In the Court of the Crimson King that he bought on release ).

Can't wait to see - and hear - that triple drum attack.

I’ll be seeing them in Nashville that same month. Pretty damned excited!

I don't know... I was just admiring this inward detail on the Criterion blu-ray of Blue Velvet.

[Show spoiler]Barry Lyndon- My family can never stay awake through this and they complain about it being slow but there is something about this film for me that I can't explain. It is one of those films that takes me out of the present and makes me feel like I am there. I fell in love with this film the very first time I saw it in the theater and I was only 14 years old ( I have always loved history).

The Blob- how I wish Criterion would have done more of these 50's monster movies....

Carnival of Souls- Saw this as a kid on late night tv and I just remember being creeped out about it even though I didn't know what the hell was going on. Once I saw it as an adult and figured it out, I have loved it ever since.

The Cat People- another beautiful, creepy film. I really wish Criterion would release more Val Lewton films....

Dead Man- another one my family could not stay awake through but I love it....

Dr. Strangelove- believe it or not, I doubled dipped (more like quadruple dipped)
on this for that extend trailer.....

Eraserhead- this film, along with John Waters films, are what opened my mind when I was a teen.....

Eyes Without A Face- I just saw this for the first time about a year ago. Better late than never as they say.....

Female Trouble- I put this on when I want people to leave. A classic!

The Harold Lloyd films- I still can't believe how good these look and I love the short films that are included....

The Graduate- One of my favorite films of all time. Criterion rescued it. I did a side by side comparison of the old blu ray with my Dvd and could see NO difference. If you have the old blu ray this will blow you away....

House (Hausu)- if you like bat sh*t crazy Japanese films then this is pure cinematic gold....

Mildred Pierce- I had never seen this film until I bought the Criterion on a whim at a B&N sale. I have been a Joan Crawford fan since seeing Berserk! and Trog on tv as a kid but I always assumed this would be one of those horrid melodramas which I usually can't handle unless they are super cheesy. Needless to say this film blew me away....

Naked Prey- another film I saw on tv as a kid that was just etched into my brain forever.....

A Night To Remember- As a Titanic fanatic this is a great release....

On the Waterfront- I've been obsessed with Marlon Brando since seeing The Wild One on tv as a kid (same with Lee Marvin)....

One Eyed Jacks - another rescue by Criterion....

The Fugitive Kind- where is that Criterion upgrade?

I have others but some I haven't watched and others I like a lot but would not consider them favorites. Some are favorite films where the old blu was sufficient but I bought the Criterion for the different extras (Some like It Hot, Dead Man, etc).

Sorry for the long, convoluted answer but hey you asked .
Very nice, definitely will have to look into these. Some ones I was contemplating like A Night to Remember, how I missed a Titanic movie I don't know.

I'll be seeing them in Montreal this fall. Got the Royal Package. Very excited. I have been a fan since the late 70s, and saw them in 1984 with the Belew/Levin/Bruford line-up for the second last show before their decade-long hiatus. I was in the first row. The latest incarnation should be a very different show.

I saw them in 1982, 2105 and last November in Edinburgh. You're all in for a real treat!

Bought my copy in 1974

My second sale purchase: The Before Trilogy. Bit of a risky blind buy at fifty bucks but I have a feeling I'm going to really like these movies. I don't follow the director or anything, something just clicked when I read the synopsis a couple of years ago and have always wanted to check these movies out. This set is in 1,900+ collections here so that tells me the films are popular enough, which to me, means the films are good. Don't need much else other than 1984, Do the Right Thing and one other title I'm forgetting (has to do with Nazi prisoners escaping from a train into the forest). Anyone know the title?

Pretty sure going by your posts and tastes, you will not really care for these films.

Just a heads-up that the Ingmar Bergman's Cinema box set is currently $149.99 (50% off) on amazon.com - which may work better for some members than buying from B&N.

I watched Mikey and Nicky last weekend for the first time.

I thought it was pretty good, but nothing special.

The main attraction, I guess, is the fact that the two leads are Peter Falk and John Cassavetes.

...but I can see why it flew under the radar for 40 years.

Man, I loved it - it was the first movie I watched on The Criterion Channel - but I can see why others wouldn't. I tried writing about it on my blog, but the piece remains unfinished all these many months later. It's a hard movie to pin down.

I watched In a Lonely Place and Ace in the Hole on the Channel last week before they expired, and I thought both of those were pretty incredible. (Bugsy Malone not so much - what a boring clunker!)
