In terms of what was the most influential and most seen since it’s release, it’s probably Thin Blue Line I’m guessing

FINALLY picked up the Zatoichi box. 90 bucks. God bless Barnes and Noble... Can't wait to grab a bunch of single titles this weekend.

Mildred Pierce and Only Angels Have Wings have great covers, which caught my eye. I think these will be bling buys. I'm usually a film fan from the '80s to present, so this will be a new venture for my collection.

Online sale prices won't always show up when looked up in store- but with a regular promotion like the Criterion sales, the prices will be the same regardless.
In ringing up the ship to home order, they will enter your membership # and you will get the discount + the free expedited shipping.

A further tip- go to the B&N product page and copy down the UPC codes for what you want first and give the clerk those numbers instead of the titles. Makes it much quicker and easier all around.
If you don't want to do ship to home, I have called my B&N store to order titles for the sale. They keep them behind the register for me and I pick it up as well. It's a nice way to review the product before I buy it. If the store doesn't have it, they get it from their warehouse in a few days.

My B&N order:
Notorious
On the Waterfront
Dr. Strangelove
Badlands
Videodrome

No blind buys this time and stuck to my plan of 1 film from each decade 1940's-1980's that I was most interested in. I might make a 2nd order before the sale is over, been eyeballing that Classic Hitchcock set as I'm near the end of a book about his life.

Don't think the Classic Hitchcock set is offered at B&N, as noted up-thread, though the 4 individual films are available @ $20 each. The Amazon price seems to fluctuate between US$65 and US$95. (Today it's at US$67.)

If I were to start my Criterion library from scratch, this set would be essential, if not the first acquisition.

Good for you! You may find a whole new era of film to love. You certainly picked a couple of fantastic films to branch out with. I hope you enjoy them both, but above all else, I commend you for taking a chance on new experiences.

Ha! Seeing your post alongside your avatar made me audibly laugh. I imagine Sméagol walking out of Barnes and Noble, arguing with himself as to which film he’s going to watch first when he gets back home.

Would anyone here recommend the BRD trilogy as a blind buy. I watched a 10 min clip of Lola on YouTube and it seemed like good dialogue. The only thing I know about Fassbender is World on a wire which I liked a lot, I'm hoping someone can talk me into it or maybe talk me out of it.

Veronica Voss and The Marriage Of Maria Braun are excellent films.

All three are great films. You will not be sad esp since you enjoyed World on A Wire.

Now that the B&N sale is in full swing I finally picked up Hoop Dreams. I was pleasantly surprised to find the extra supplement of the follow up interviews and footage to see what happened to the families years later.

No. Yesterday, HTF posted a couple pictures of Criterion's offices on their facebook page and said it'll be posted soon.

Just went to Barnes and Noble a few hours ago. I got...

War and Peace

The Red Shoes

The Earrings of Madame de...

Also, I'm happy that the War and Peace Blu Ray is much smaller in packaging than the DVD set (lovely set by the way).

I'm always fascinated by the differences in what people get - either by choice or availability - and since this was my first sale I was somewhat able to plan and budget, I thought I'd share my haul, too. In no particular order -

Hedwig and the Angry Inch
Ingmar Bergman's Cinema
Mishima: A Life in Four Chapters
In the Realm of the Senses
The Ballad of Narayama
Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas
Tokyo Drifter
The Apu Trilogy
Island of Lost Souls
The Last Temptation of Christ
Beauty and the Beast
Branded to Kill

...Aaaaand I'm done for the year! I went in the morning after the sale started, and I completely blame the immediate availability of the Bergman box for the avalanche. Yup, it's Bergman's fault.

Great pick up! I've been debating picking up On The Waterfront because it would be a blind buy for me, but I've been interested in seeing it for a while. I guess it will depend on what's in stock at the store when I head there this weekend.
