I figure if you never read the booklet for the DVD version..... then it shouldn't matter for the Blu-ray

I've picked up movies on DVD that I already owned, but thought I didn't, more than once.... that's for sure! It's a sign that your collection is growing out of control

I really need to wait for Amazon to price match these things......

I'm looking through my Amazon orders, and wondering "Where in the hell did Repulsion Go!!"

So sure enough, I had to wade through the pages here to remind myself where I ordered it from....... Pretty bad when you have more outstanding orders than you can keep track of!

EDIT:

Looks like B&N shipped it out expedited..... should arrive tomorrow hopefully

The difference is that the "huge booklet" is the actual novel of "The Man Who Fell To Earth" written by Walter Tevis. The booklets between the blu-ray and DVD are the same... you're just not getting the novel.

No problems on my end from Barnes & Noble. My blu-ray of "Repulsion" is scheduled to arrive on Friday via UPS. I'm hoping for it to arrive tomorrow, actually, since the disc is already in Pennsylvania and just has to make it up here to Rhode Island.

Yep ,I'm pretty sure if Two-Lane Blacktop gets a blu-release from Criterion it will have the smaller booklet,NOT the screenplay that the 2-DVD set has, even though I like the blu ray format more, they did a 5 star job w/ the TLB! (I also have the Anchor Bay tin, which has different extras plus a collectable key chain) Plus I dug out my old "Brazil"(disc1) DVD from the 3 disc CC, and to my horror, it windowboxes,GRR! They need to fix that w/the blu release is that ever happens!

It's unfortunate about the first release of "Brazil" 'cause I had the original non-anamorphic release, as well, but Criterion did go back and re-release it so that it is anamorphic for widescreen tv's. Both the single-disc and 3-disc versions were given the anamorphic treatment. Here's Criterion's page for "Brazil."

Would they replace my old edition for an anamorphic one if I contacted them?

You remeber that Visa commercial from about a year ago that played the theme from Bazil? One of those ones that it showed from above all the people moving in-sync until someone went to pay with a check. Really freaked me out that "Brazil" was the music they chose. Link

I don't see how it could hurt to contact Jon Mulvaney over at Criterion and see if something like that's possible. Just shoot him an e-mail and ask. The worst that could happen is he says "sorry, I can't," right?

True, never hurts to ask.

Wonder if John would have an Ebay store for all those first prints that collector's yearn for...
That's what I would do, check Ebay, see what a first print of Brazill sells for, if it's more than the cost of the new edition at the B&N sale, then sell your old one and buy the new one.

Is there actual collector's out there that want to buy my old Criterion "Brazil" set?, my B&N has it for 30 bucks on sale. Is the old "Salo" from 1998 worth anything now that the newer one is out?

I can't imagine why the old SALO would be worth anythign since the transfer on the older copy isn't as good as the new release, plus I don't think there were really any extras on the old release... the 2 Disc DVD set is a definate upgrade.

Who knows? I haven't checked the "Salo" prices since I sold my original for $450 on eBay 4 years ago. You might happen upon the "completist" that would want it, or some other oddball character that's willing to jump on it.

You could also just buy the single-disc version of "Brazil" right now through either the Barnes & Noble 50% off sale or the DVDPlanet/DeepDiscount sale. That way, you would just be replacing the first disc at a much lower price.

I go here for OOP info.
Looks like Salo goes for about $40 - $45 on ebay right now.
