We all know that spine 1000 is going to be David Lynch's Elephant Man.

So thanks to everyone for their recommendations yesterday on the Akira Kurosawa films yesterday. Decided to take a trip up to Barnes and Noble and purchased High and Low, Throne of Blood and The Hidden Fortress. Now just waiting for the kids to go to bed.

Nice! Hidden Fortress is my favorite Kurosawa movie. I love the two bumbling and bickering peasants in it (the inspiration for R2-D2 and C3P0), they always crack me up.

I was trying to decide between Hidden Fortress, Rashomon and Kagemusha. I went with Hidden Fortress because of it's influence on Star Wars, which I love

Still selfishly hoping we don't get a boxset since I bought all of the available Criterion Blu-rays (minus Dreams.) |

I'm hoping the good people at Criterion will have persuaded Paramount that spine #1000 has to be Roman Holiday.

Damn this B&N sale feels like it goes on forever (yeah I know it’s basically a month long sale) I caved again and picked up Notorious and Wages of Fear, so that’s 4 that I’ve picked so far and I fear I’ll probably end up picking up Blow Up, Klute and possibly The Breakfast Club. So my Criterion collection continues to grow, which is a good thing at 20$ a pop vs a very bad thing at 40$ each. When I first started jumping into the blu collecting game I foolishly may have bought a few (maybe 4 or 5 tops) off ebay for upwards of 30$+ because I was stupid and didn’t dive deep enough into this fantastic websites multitude of threads, especially the Criterion thread, had I done so earlier I would have learned of B&N’s two sale dates for these and saved some money (that I would have spent on Blu’s anyway) oh well, live and learn... thankfully I’m not driven to collect every Criterion issued, but these sales always put a massive hurting on my wallet no matter how hard I try to exercise restraint. Think I’ll seriously consider the Dietrich/von Sternberg and Bergman sets during the Nov sale.
Wages was on my radar for a couple of years because Sorcerer is one of my all time favorite movies, really enjoyed Wages and seeing how Freidkin/and his script writers adapted and revised the storyline . To a large extent it stays fairly true to the Wages storyline but just develops the characters and how they came to the place they end up coming to to escape their pasts. Wages doesn’t quite hit the mark on that front but still it is an excellent film none the less. Last edited by JackLordsHair; 07-14-2019 at 06:02 AM. |
