Surely something else is going on here.
Isn't it pretty obvious? They're anticipating that the marchers at the Area 51 rally will finally be able to reveal to the world that Godzilla is actually being held there in a gigantic underground bunker next to the alien tank and they want to tie that revelation in with their own Godzilla box-set release! Basic marketing!

I think it would be healthier to "expect NOTHING" as each month rolls by, because then anything that does happen will be a wonderful and pleasant happenstance.
I like how there are now posts of self reflection on the Criterion thread just because release announcements are three days past due.

I'll poop my pants if it's a Kurosawa collection.

Does anybody here think it is wise to put out box sets like this? From a business sense?

Since they already have quite a few large box sets in the collection, Zatoichi and the recent Ingmar Bergman one; which seems to be selling very well; I don't see a problem for them. The Kurosawa box would be an upgrade since it already existed but went out of print, so it's something they'll probably re-release sooner or later. I sadly couldn't afford it now, so I'd prefer individual releases. All the box set talk now gets me depressed, especially if they decide certain films will remain available only in the boxes.

Spine#1000 is going to be the Snyder cut of Justice League. You all know it but don´t want to admit it.

If Criterion hasn't made any announcements for other releases, then October is probably ONLY Godzilla movies. After all, if they manage to release a 14 movie box set, that's all they need for a single month.

Huh? I thought it was pretty self explanatory, but I'll try delving a little deeper, since you seem a little challenged.

This is a movie discussion forum. This thread in particular is a discussion about home video releases from the Criterion Collection. Criterion issues each of their releases with a number on the spine that indicates how many movies they have released on dvd/blu-ray. Spine number 1000 is the next number to be announced. Fans and journalists have been speculating that because it's a landmark release number that it will be a "big" announcement. Something deemed "special". Now, it was reported sometime ago that Criterion has obtained a number of Godzilla films, and because to this moment no announcement has been made, people have speculated that Spine #1000 will be a Godzilla box set containing over a dozen films. Now Criterion almost always makes their new announcements on the 15th of every month, and as of today, the 18th of the month, no such announcement has been made, coupled with the fact that its the announcement of spine #1000 fans online have become weary and have exacerbated the situation. Being a Criterion fan myself, I'm not immune from such hysteria. My POINT is that even with all this hulabaloo surrounding Spine 1000, I really won't care either way if it indeed turns out to be true that its a Godzilla box set, as I'm not a fan of said films. I'm in effect getting myself worked up over something that probably won't matter to me in the end.

I hope that clears things up.

Yes, for many of us the 2015 Criterion tragedy has replaced the Kennedy assassination and 9/11 when it comes to asking where were you when it happened?

This supposed epic delay of June 2015 never happened... i looked back at the news archive and it was only delayed one day—announced on Tuesday June 16

Maybe original poster was being hyperbolic? I don’t know

December 2015 was delayed by two days however. I remember they apologized for it both on the 15th and 16th. I'm pretty sure it was due to A Brighter Summer Day.

When will the Zapruder film get the Criterion treatment?

I'd love it if Paul Dano's Wildlife was part of this month's announcement. No R1 Blu release from IFC, and he made a visit to the CC closet recently, so hopefully it's in the cards.

Me personally I think his films post Tenanbaums are different because he stopped writing with Wilson. His first 3 are the ones I first loved and still love the most.

And that’s completely fair, however what movieattack5 stated was just nonsense IMO.

I’m more of a Fantastic Mr Fox guy myself
