Turns out it was ALL just because they were waiting for their good pal Wes Anderson to approve the COVER of their "Moonrise Kingdom" re-release. He was so busy, you see, that he couldn't get back to them on that for three days...

Well, that and Manhattan hipsters love to hit the town by Happy Hour...

So, we all waited three days that time, too.
Not that I didn't believe you, but memory is a funny business, and I don't recall anything remotely close to this happening in 2015.

So here's what actually happened in June 2015 for September 2015 titles:

June 15th:

Moonrise Kingdom general artwork leaked onto site (via phantom page manipulation) at ~2:30 PM EST:

That Cover :O!
Specs updated for Moonrise Kingdom posted at ~5:35 PM EST

Criterion Announces via Facebook that announcements will be delayed till tomorow at ~6:05 PM EST

Sorry all, our September titles announce is postponed until tomorrow—we still have a few kinks to work out!
June 16th:

Titles started to leak out (via phantom page manipulation) around 5:00PM EST with Breaker Morant, and Blind Chance

Artwork for Moonrise Kingdom posted at 5:04 PM EST

The Honeymoon Killers at 5:06 PM EST

By 5:15 PM all 6 titles for September 2015 were on the site, and officially announced.

So it was not delayed day after day, and was not 3 days as you thought, and certainly nothing comparable to this current incident. Like I said, memory is a funny business

I didn't intend to call you out or anything. My memory is pretty photographic, and thorough, and something just seemed off about what you said with regards to my own recollections, so it was more to see whether I had mis-remembered it or not. It was over 4 years ago, so it's hard to remember exact details of course, and it's entirely possible the delay was becuase of the MK artwork needing to be finalized.

I do now remember the MK artwork being removed after the announce, and replaced with a black box with a Criterion 'C' in it, for several days. Then, the artwork re-appeared. That likely was what I was mis-remembering. And I remembered that there was a delay around that time. Ugh, I am getting old, it's true.

Anyway, there have been a number of announcement delays before, some even a few days long, so while it's frustrating, it actually isn't anything new.

People always say we shouldn't get so angry, as Criterion never officially promises the announcements ON the 15th. . But it is still frustrating mainly when they say things like it's delayed until tomorrow, and then tomorrow they delay again.

Oh well...

Why not have a Peter Weir box set with The Last Wave (they've already released the DVD), Gallipoli, The Year of Living Dangerously, Witness and The Mosquito Coast?

It’s a crime against cinema that a bonafide classic like Roman Holiday still isn’t available on blu-ray. Anywhere. In 2019.

Fix this, Criterion.

Anyway, back to wishing:

I wish they'd announce "After Hours", "Bringing Out the Dead", or any Scorsese, really.

Always wishing for "The Devils".

Some more Pasolini or Bertolucci would be most welcome.

And by the way, I posted a little joke earlier about Toho and Criterion, and people apparently lost their minds and flagged me left and right. So, I apologize for offending anyone. That wasn't my intention.

Since Matewan is all but confirmed now, I know this and Ghost Dog were both on Artisan DVD. I don’t know who owns it, but man this gave me some hope that maybe Ghost Dog has a chance to being around the corner

The lack of a release for Roman Holiday is so perplexing to me. It’s a well-remembered, well-loved classic. One of the biggest movies in the portfolio of one of cinema’s most beloved actresses. Why isn’t this on Blu-ray yet? It’s past due.

I was thinking the same thing, especially when in the cast of the Bergman set you can pick it up for roughly the price of 7-8 regular criterion releases (and that's when they are on sale). However, I think it probably ends up working for them, because for most of us these boxes will have double-dips of movies we already own, and because of the price we are purchasing additional movies we wouldn't have purchased otherwise. Again, going back to the Bergman box, I already had 4 of his movies individually, and those are probably the only 4 I'd be willing to spend $20-30 each on, however when the box set was on sales for $150, I jumped on it for the value.

I'm really hoping for this also. It's such a great, underrated movie from last year. It's a shame that it hasn't gotten a Blu-ray release yet.
