I don’t think they’d do a countdown clock and go through a big announcement if it were just a repackaging. I think it will be super special

Add to this it’s called “the Showa collection” and is $150. There are only 1-2 Showa Godzilla films that Criterion *might* not have the rights to....So nobody else really could release something like that right now.

Except you don't actually know, so maybe posting your speculation as fact isn't the best idea. I like how "most likely" became "100% definitely not" when people didn't agree with you. That says a lot.

Considering there's 4K scans done of The Shining, 2001, Barry Lyndon, Dr. Strangelove, A Clockwork Orange, and a nice 2K of Paths of Glory that would up-rez nicely, there's certainly more Kubrick films WITH 4K scans now than without, and Full Metal Jacket and EWS would be simpler to do since they aren't nearly as old.

So yeah, it's definitely a real possibility.

My mistake on this...I thought the forum user had more concrete info gained from the site. Though, what they posted does make sense. Hopefully Criterion will just get this over with soon.

I do, actually. I was trying to couch my language at first, but decided to make it clear.

WB has no UHD catalog titles on tap for this fall aside from The Shining, Gremlins and The Wizard of Oz. Wishing won't make it otherwise.

Right. Nice walkback on those "facts" that you would've said conclusively the first time if you actually knew and had insider info.

And who said it was coming this fall? No one. See how you don't actually know?

I've worked in home video QC for 15 years. I'll leave it at that.

WB isn't in the habit of announcing more than a few months ahead. Especially when they have package art ready to go.

Prepare to be disappointed. Like I said, it's most likely a repackaging of BDs. It's certainly not a UHD set (unless it's just 2001 and The Shining).

Sure. Nice sidestep of why it was "most likely not" at first then definitely a no a few posts later.

I've worked in the biz longer than the other guy, but I never said I "know" what it is or what's coming. Learn to read, please, before you start hurling triggered insults. He's the guy who didn't know, then knew, now claims autonomy. Pretty funny.

The FACT is, he has no clue if UHD box set is coming, when it's coming, or anything. Bye!

That would be something if the WB announcement and CC #1000 unveiling were one and the same.

Now that would be interesting. Criterion authoring it would be a compelling wrinkle. I can't see such a thing being UHD though since WB is releasing The Shining themselves. But I could see a Criterion BD Kubrick box since they would be able to gather together all the licensing from WB, Sony, Universal and MGM.

How weird, then, to make such a big fuss over what is basically a re-release, don't you think?

There have been European listings for A CLOCKWORK ORANGE in 4k but I guess you're shooting that down?

Even so, there's no way it's just three films on 4k, especially when they've announced THE SHINING already for separate sale.

It's a shame because I'd convinced myself that the perfect title for Criterion's 1000th would be a 4k release of EYES WIDE SHUT. Twenty years since its release and Kubrick's death and a first step into the new format for Criterion. I know people seem to be sure it's the Godzilla set but I'm not so sure: Criterion has form for announcing huge box sets well in advance, presumably to prepare people for the expense.

And that box does look very Criterion. But it also looks tied in to the exhibition currently in London. But then why would WB release a set which doesn't include the superior Criterion encode of BARRY LYNDON?

And then there's Criterion's strange delay in revealing the 100th spine. "Later in the week" they said. And there's a guy on Facebook saying that someone who "worked on it" says "it's not a reissue" (which could mean simply that it's got new bonus content: It could include "Filmworker" on BD and the "My Life with Stanley" doc).

But then why release the films on BD again when there's at least two of the films on 4k? Unless it's some kind of Frankenstein-mix of BD and UHD?

Very intriguing. And so - as you say - sure to end in disappointment.

All this Kubrick talk reminds me how awful Clockwork looks on Blu-ray. Glad it’s getting a 4K scan. Would like to see the same for Full Metal Jacket and Eyes Wide Shut. Lolita is also terribly underrated

WB has done that before.

It has been 8 years since the previous WB box set, IIRC, and this would presumably have the newer BDs of 2001 and The Shining.

Good news is the speculation will be over not too long from now.

Maybe it will have UHD discs for 2001 and The Shining and Regular BDs for the rest, like they did with the Mad Max collection. I really hope it's a true 4K set but my hopes are pretty low.

Just so you know if it does indeed happen I called it.

No, but you sure like to contradict people and use the fact that you work "in the biz" as a battering ram often enough like that means you are somehow the resident expert on all things up one side and down the other.

And the sad thing is, nobody here is impressed that you work "in the biz". Like, at all. To the vast majority of the people who post here, you are nothing more than an irascible clown, which is kind of pathetic considering the amount of time you spend posting here.

We all want the Kubrick titles on 4K UHD. I see no need to badger each other over that, or the reasons we think it will or won't happen soon.
