I think that's the shortest duration main (single) title criterion released in blu-ray format. But that's documentary. Among the feature films A Day in the Country at 41 minutes is probably the shortest.

I'm glad for those that like Reichardt, as her style is needed in the film community. But IMO her films are like watching paint dry. They are mildly thought provoking, but just nothing there for me.

Yeah I was thinking of A Day in the Country too, definitely a short feature. A great film, for sure!

I think it's a joint WB/Criterion set with Criterion releasing in North America and WB distributing in the rest of the world.

I dearly wish it would be a 4k release for all his WB films but I find it hard to believe, given that Leon Vitali said the 4ks are yet to be done for FMJ and EWS. Unless, that is, they've got "a big surprise" coming to us.

I think we'll see new extras, probably including "Film-worker" and maybe "My Life with Stanley", and a big book like the one in the Bergman set. I wouldn't be surprised, in fact, if it came packaged with the official exhibition book which is really nice and costs about Ł40 (though I'd be a bit pissed off that I bought it already).

Anyway, see you in ten hours or so when I shall be forced to eat "le pie 'umble".
Anything is possible. WB has done good work with UHD and can help there while Criterion could curate the release.

Looks like we're getting the announcement tomorrow, per Jonathan Keogh.

Anyone know if Kino has exclusive North American distribution rights for Fear and Desire? Does the Library of Congress do that?

Could be a coincidence that it is timed with Kubrick announcement BUT maybe not.

The film is in the public domain and the Library of Congress has a preserved print.

I won't mind if Criterion did release for American Beauty for the 20th anniversary. However, I feel like no one is going to touch it again because of what happen with Kevin Spacey.

The suspense is wonderful. Imagine this though: it’s neither Godzilla or Kubrick.

Never seen so many people turn on a movie so quickly. In 1999 it was Citizen Kane, today it’s “dated, sentimental crap.” Granted, the protagonist is a disgruntled Baby Boomer who’s lost touch with reality, but it’s still a great Hollywood movie. It’s no longer “edgy,” but that doesn’t mean it should be thrown under the bus.

But yeah, unlikely that Criterion would pick it up.

People turned on it years ago. I've rarely heard anything good said about the movie.

(I've never seen it, so I have no opinion either way.)

American Beauty is wonderful. Ppl turning on it over Spacey or whatever elements they wish to project as "dated" over social this offends me now nonsense drive me crazy. A classic is a classic.

Are we really sure that it's either a Kubrick or Godzilla set? Couldn't it'll still be a Kurosawa set?

Critics don’t like American Beauty, but the general audience loves it. Read the comments on YouTube: “This movie changed my life” is a common reaction. Critics no longer find it applicable, so they’ve disowned it. And if it’s “dated,” then so is every other movie. It’s a dumb criticism. Every movie is a product of its time.

If it's the Kubrick box, I'll def. be in saving money mode. I can't buy all of those freaking movies again. Enough is enough.

Did anybody notice that the “tears in rain” guy from Blade Runner died? It’s going to be depressing watching it again knowing he’s dead

Wow, that’s all that Rutger Hauer merits? Nameless “oh, that guy with the memorable Blade Runner dying monologue?” Dude was a great actor in general, loved him especially in Verhoeven’s movies. RIP!

"tears in rain" guy?! You mean Rutger Hauer? Let's show a little respect and at least try to Google his name.
