I'm on the fence for now. I'm happy the English dubs/versions are being included for a majority, but we're still missing the English versions for Ghidorah, All Monsters Attack, Godzilla Vs. Hedorah, Godzilla Vs. Gigan, Ebirah Horror of The Deep, Godzilla Raids Again, and Mothra Vs. Godzilla.


I'm sounding ungrateful, I know. Should be happy that some of the English dubs are presented here.

I just really hope that KKVG Japanese Cut isn’t SD. That would kill the whole set for me, especially at the price.

I'm by no means a die hard fan and, honestly, I haven't seen any of these (except the original) since I was kid back in the 80s. That being said, I will pick this up in a heartbeat.

The English versions Godzilla Raids Again, Mothra vs Godzilla, and Ghidorah are edited differently with extra scenes and stock footage, so they couldn't include a dub as a alternative track.

I don't get why Ebirah, Hedorah, and Gigan are missing the dubs when the Kraken releases had them. Perhaps it's just a error and they are included.

Well, there it is. Should have gone with my first guess that it would be the Godzilla box set, and it makes so much sense now. Personally, I'm not a huge fan, but for those who love this monster stuff, enjoy!

Criterion wouldn't. There are at least two HD options for the Japanese cut. There's the Japanese Blu-ray transfer, which is decent but has a few parts of the first reel for which film elements hadn't yet been located sourced from a LaserDisc transfer. Then there's the complete 4K restoration that debuted in 2016, which has been airing on TV in Japan but isn't yet on disc.

If Criterion went to the trouble of commissioning a fresh HD scan of a battered, optical-subbed release print of Police Story 2, they're not going to put the heretofore unreleased original cut of King Kong vs. Godzilla on this set in SD.

It’s just bizarre to me that the English Cut is the main one listed and even included on the site’s credits. It makes it sound like the Japanese Cut is an extra.

Honestly until we get confirmation otherwise, I'm going to assume it's in SD. I don't see why Criterion would overlook mentioning it being in HD if it were.

Well, I emailed Mulvaney about it. I’m sure I’ll get a response soon. It makes literally no sense for it to not be included in HD unless this is Toho’s fault for some reason.

It's going to stand out as being the only main feature on the set presented in English, but I'm guessing whatever they got Universal to agree to required them to sell the English cut as the main feature.
