I pressed that link and Amazon reports it's not compatible with my Fire Stick.

Hmmm, was just reading reviews and it looks like people have had issues if their TVs or fire sticks are of a certain model. Not sure. Sucks it didn't work though and you had to spend money on a different device.

Amazon will probably price match it like they always do.

Older Fire Sticks don't work with The Criterion Channel for some reason, from what I've heard.

I am a Roku guy myself.

Tried the Fire TV Cube and it was the buggiest piece of crap ever. Felt like beta software, and it got worse and worse with each progressive update. Had to beg Amazon to refund me past the return window.

The first Fire Stick was also pretty awful IMO.

I've given Amazon two chances to win me over with their shoddy Fire TV devices and they've failed to impress me both times.

(I like Amazon's other devices though: Kindles, Fire tablets, etc.)

Some fans that I have seen are upset over some dubs not being added to the Godzilla set. Not to mention, some fans are not very happy of the Transfers that are on Starz and Criterion's website.

Likely. They did with the Bergman set last November.

It would be impossible to please everyone with this set. Godzilla has some die-hard fans. Nothing short of UHD transfers with every cut available, and each movie on its own disc would please some of them.

I think it's a great set overall, and covers 85% of what I was looking for in a collection. Since there's a lot of red tape when dealing with Toho, I'm perfectly content with what we're getting.

Absolutely. I really don’t get why all 15 Godzilla films are gonna be in the collection. It makes sense to have the first one but the rest just make more sense to be under maybe an Arrow release of something.

Wish it was Eyes Wide Shut. Now that would have been something. And in 4K.

Love my 4K Firestick. Plugged that sucker into the back of my OPPO 203 and I let the good times roll.

I think the description makes it pretty clear why they included all 15 films.

Quote:
Collected here for the first time are all fifteen Godzilla films of Japan’s Showa era, in a landmark set showcasing the technical wizardry, fantastical storytelling, and indomitable international appeal that established the most iconic giant monster the cinema has ever seen.
Why shouldn't that be worthy of being spine 1000?

It's just that Godzilla doesn't have any artistic merit. Criterion only releases art house movies like Bull Durham, Armageddon, or The Rock.

I'm sure you understand.

That's true enough, and I am still happy this is coming out regardless, but the transfers are genuinely cause for some worry. Toho's HD transfers for most of these films date back to 2008 or so, and are scrubbed clean of a lot of detail in the cleanup process, aside from featuring often muted or oddly tinted colors and rather weak black levels. They're generally improvements over the DVDs, but they're not even close to Criterion's usual standards. We don't necessarily know that that's what we're getting here, but the vague "High-definition digital transfers" language doesn't necessarily inspire a lot of confidence.

A bluray set of AK100 would be awesome. Missed out on it and a lot of his films could use a good upgrade.

I would be down for a Kurosawa box set. I haven't bought any of his films on BD in case it happens.

hopefully I can get this for my birthday. I am confused though about the first Godzilla. I mean this will make it twice they are releasing it? stand alone and in the boxset but then doesn't that mess up the numbering a bit to have the same Godzilla film in different spots?

Either way I love this and will get since my birthday is the 28.
