In fact, there can be movies which don't have a critical backing which CAN be enjoyable and meaningful to individual viewers. Likewise, individual viewers can watch a critic-approved movie and not like it or get anything from it. The mini-review which sparked this whole debate being a decent example.

That is the beauty of criticism, in my eyes.
I am not talking about criticism, it was the foundation of film that I was implying. There is a science to it and that is what people study. Anyways, the initial post was that someone called a 'quality' film trash with no basis for his opinion. I called him on it, saying he was no expert to call it trash. That many 'critics' or film experts call the same film a 'quality' film. Beauty is ultimately in the eye of the beholder, but one needs to understand why someone else calls it beautiful in the first place.

As far as I'm concerned...cable (satellite, etc.) is MORE important than Internet.

But being a network specialist, I guess I'm biased.

Good thing, too. From what I've read, blu-ray.com was about to shut down the forums.

Also, don't you think you're a bit too old now, CG, to be sleeping in the same bed as me and your mother?

If you look at the terms for the offer, you have to use the email address the code was sent to, so I am guessing that it isn't available to everyone. Or maybe some of us just haven't received the email yet.

Totally agree. I would rather have five people share deals and only have one of them work then no one sharing deals at all

Yeah, Cable is WAY more important. I went without no T.V. and computer for 3 days. 3 DAYS!

A few notables...

- The Canterbury Tales
- The Scarlet Pimpernel
- Jungle Book

Disappointed that wasn't P/P's A Canterbury Tale instead.

edit: their services probably not needed

Your way off base. It wasn't quality to the poster, so why aren't they allowed to call it trash (e.g. not a good film)? Why the need for pretensions, especially in this thread? They had a basis; too long, story not that interesting, boring. That's on par with calling it quality because of awards received.

In the end film experts make up their own unique rules for judging film. It isn't set in stone and it defiantly changes from one to another. Add to that Paris, Texas is a 25 year old film and perspective on things change. The beauty of film and art is you can call it as you see it. There is no need to constrain film to another's own box of rules and thinking.

Calling something trash is foolish when you have 0 evidence to back up your claim. Say something like; 'it was trash, because that could never happen in the real world", or "the character had no basis in reality for a movie that is in real time", etc. I want to know why he though the film was trash. That is what makes an intelligent argument.

And NO, in the end experts do not make up their own rules. They still have to use those rules as a basis to formulate their own opinion. All films, like books, have some sort of structure and character development. Whether it is executed properly is usually considered a degree of quality. The film may be 25, or 50 years old, but the execution of this film, let alone 100's of 'quality' films have these aspects in them. Like I said before, ultimately, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. But someone helped define why the piece is even considered beautiful with their expert synopsis of the piece.
