Not sure if it’s a possible hint at a future release or anything, but my first thought was True Romance, but I am not 100% confident in that haha.
I don't recognize this particular shot, but Anne Bancroft wore a leopard-skin coat in The Graduate. In fact, leopard-skin prints were one of the recurring motifs of her character, Mrs. Robinson. And cigarettes.

Could be an entirely different film, of course.

Yes, and they generally don't sell well enough to justify. Kino tried with Hannibal 4k, and ended up cancelling their 2nd planned 4k title (Valkyrie) because it didn't sell well enough.

Oh yep, yep, that may be it. I was too excited thinking it was a hint at something haha.

"Hannibal" was always going to be a tough sell due to it's polarizing reception among moviegoers and fans in general. The Dollars Trilogy will, for example, outsell "Hannibal" by a long mile. Another problem is that many studios don't seem that interested including UHD rights with MGM being supposedly an exception. Criterion have plenty of "popular" titles that could be a good sell on the format (Blue Velvet, Princess Bride, The Silence of the Lambs, etc).

I check out their prices enough to know the price is high most of the time but I have also been tracking their sale seasons.

In 2019, there was a sale in March and in September (6 months gap). Last year, the September sale seem to have lasted longer but this year was short.

So the sale will be back on; but you have to check frequently. You can at least put $ away until the sale...
Ah, thanks. I didn't even know they had a sale. They don't really seem to advertise them. Good to hear it's not the end of the world for me though 6 months is pretty long time to wait.

In Criterions email newsletter today it says they have nine Val Lewton films on their streaming channel...I don't have that service but should I have any hope of them releasing a blu-ray collection still? I realize some of those are with Shout now so it's probably not possible.

Kino is really just one example though, Well Go USA tried a 4k release with Shadow and we haven't gotten another since so it seems that one didn't sell too well either. Even if the Dollars movies sold better, there's still the possibility it wouldn't be enough.

For Criterion though, I feel Breakfast Club would probably be their safest bet, though at that point, Universal may just release it themselves.

Like you said with the UHD rights though, if they have to pay extra to license UHD rights, it may just end up being cost-prohibitive at that point, especially once you also factor in the extra cost to create a master disc.

"Shadow" was released in August and I'm not expecting labels to pump out UHDs like crazy; a release, or even two, but even that might be pushing it, every few months I'd be okay with. Both have had, unfortunately, lackluster starts but these take time.

WellGo has been hinting at a UHD Phantasm boxset for months...

For some reason I thought Shadow had come out back in May or June, didn't realize it was so recent, good point.

Really? That's the first I've heard of it, I stand corrected then.

I'm still think that Criterion will release I Walked With A Zombie which I consider to be the jewel in the crown of the Lewton Nine. I like them all but it's my favorite.

Not a huge musical or dansical fan but I have enjoyed the Astaire/Rogers films I have seen to date, mainly because they have an irresistible charm and the dancing is amazing (and not edited!).

Swing Time is currently the best of the three that I have seen, although Top Hat also needs to be upgraded to blu. This one also works purely as a charming little romance film but the 3 main dancing sequences really are something to behold.

The Criterion blu is not as sharp as other films from the era but it still looks pretty great and does justice to the details and production design and costuming.

Doubtful. All the best ones have been released, and I don't see Criterion doing Ghost Ship or 7th Victim. Isle of the Dead would be the only possible one, but doesn't really seem likely as it's not a prestige title.

Yeah I suppose it's slim pickings now, but if they did I Walked with a Zombie it'd be nice...that and Cat People are my favorites anyway.

It's too bad they got split up unlike the nice DVD set. I watched Ghost Ship on DVD a few weeks ago and it was better than I remembered but I can't imagine it'd be a big seller on its own.

I watched Solaris 72' for the first time a few days back, what a great film. I think I'd probably put it in my top 25 all-time. I'll need to give it another watch though to further grasp it, but I really loved a lot of what it was going for.

Lot of great exchanges in there too, but this was probably my favorite line

I loved that Bach music variation too, just beautiful.

I really like The Ghost Ship. Mainly for Richard Dix's terrific performance as the captain. His calm but threatening demeanor is chilling.

A shout out also to The Man Who Knew too Much (1934). I still prefer Hitch’s 50’s remake overall but that one doesn’t have Peter Lorre absolutely owning every scene he is in and I also love the droll British humour in this version.

Criterion’s blu is from a 2k restoration and looks and sounds fabulous.

To their credit, Scream Factory has done a stellar job with their Val Lewton production titles, their Universal horror/Universal sci-fi classics, and their classic Hammer titles. For me, it's six in one and a half dozen in the other with regard to which label releases I Walked with a Zombie or The Seventh Victim.

I just hope that they are released by either label sooner rather than later.

Yes. best Guess would be Tues 10/8 or 10/15.
Most commonly starts on Tues in the Fall, but unlike the Feb/March sale that can vary a bit.
