Possible, but having the Flash Sale the same week the B&N sale presumably will start seems unlikely. The last 3 years it's been the 3rd mon/Tues in Oct, but the date certainly has never been close to a set date

Haxan would be a also be a great Halloween Release to key on

When the flash sale hits these will be the only two I'll be picking up for now. Picking up other titles, mainly UHD's, this month.

Oh yeah forgot about Haxan, that's definitely more likely then.

Honestly, if you are only going to get two then you're probably better off (pricewise) waiting for B&N since it's going to add $7-8 shipping. CA gets sales tax so no advantage for Criterion.com.

For only $10-12 more you can add a 3rd item

Thanks for the heads up. Might either add Kid Brother or Local Hero then.

Is Sweet Movie ever getting a blu ray upgrade? I'm not sure if I should buy the dvd at this point or wait for a better release.

Also, we need some Svankmajer and Juraj Herz releases badly.

Speaking of bluray upgrades, any chance of The Lady Eve and Unfaithfully Yours getting an upgrade? I'm wondering if I should just get the DVDs.

I believe Lee Kline said that The Lady Eve's elements were in bad shape, so probably not anytime soon.

For anyone that lives in San Francisco:
Here in LA last night, I saw the screening of Koyaanisqatsi, with a live score by jazz band Gogo Penguin. It was one of the best things I've seen in years, and truly one of my favorite movie-going experiences ever. They have some performances coming up in SF (tomorrow!), London, and Berlin.
Thanks!

BFI recently screened The Lady Eve theatrically. I assume that if they have a print that's good enough to show theatrically, it's good enough to scan for a blu ray, but maybe that's a faulty assumption.

There is already a 4K scan of Unfaithfully Yours.

That sounds awesome! I might make a trip if they swing through Atlanta.

Yeah, I'm no sure. I saw The Film Forum was showing a print from 35mm here in nyc too, and the BFi trailer does look fine to me. I didn't seek out the source directly, but I recall dwk mentioning that Lee Kline said it in some interview with Home Theater Forums, a podcast I think.

edit: From 8/17/19

Hmm, maybe BFI has access to better elements than Criterion. One can hope, anyway. The Lady Eve is one of my most wanted.

Thank you. I see copies from Spain and the Sturges box set from France, but I don't have a region free player, unfortunately.

The Spain release is more than likely a bootleg and the French release just use the DVD masters I believe (the Spain release also probably does as well).

Neither do I. I always assume that anything from Spain is a bootleg and anything from France has forced subs (how's that for broad generalizations?) I'm still waiting for a Criterion release.

Just for the record, at least two French releases that I've watched that don't have forced sub-titles are blu-rays of the recently restored Powell & Pressburger I Know Where I'm Going and the Complete Eric Rohmer Box Set:

In life as in literature, one sometimes take actions in the hope that it will improve oneself in some small way. In that spirit, for the (hopefully) upcoming Criterion flash sale or B&N 50% off sale, I decided to get one title that I think I SHOULD get, as opposed to one I really want to. Sorta like reading War and Peace or learning calculus. Feel free to try to dissuade me from this particular enterprise.
