Arrow is also putting out “Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas” with an updated transfer.

Just watched The Devils on the channel last night and I gotta say everyone’s right, this desperately needs the criterion treatment. What a masterpiece!

Same with "Being John Malkovich".

Also The Killers, The Killing, and Night of the Hunter have Arrow Academy releases I believe. I'm sure there's probably a couple more.

You were right, it is the same master. The Criterion is from a 4K scan supervised by Spike Jones.

As far as I remember, the reason "La Strada" hasn't been updated yet isn't a licensing issue, it was some kind of issue between Studio Canal and Criterion, where Studio Canal wasn't giving them access to the HD remaster. That's why neither Criterion DVD release went out of print, they still had the license.

Does anyone think the Criterion upgrade of Barry Lyndon is worth moving up the wishlist a bit if I already own the WB bluray?

In all honesty, that Blu-ray wasn't that bad but I love Lyndon and would happily get it if it's substantially better.

The extras seem interesting too.

Yes, if for nothing else, the Criterion has the correct aspect ratio.

The Criterion Barry Lyndon is definitely worth the upgrade. The extras are great - very fascinating and lengthy interviews with crewmembers who worked with Kubrick, and a great feature on Ken Adam, the production designer who had a nervous breakdown working with Kubrick. Plus, the transfer of the film is new and from a 4k source. This is a fantastic, packed release.

Don't think I'll be able to wait for the next July B&N sale for this one. I'll finally be able to retire my DVD copy.

I fully support people paying full price. That's what allows people like me to buy them at a discount.

I’ve only recently seen it but heard about there being 2 cuts— I think Kermode said something about Russell was fine with the shorter cut? Hope both could be included. It’s so weird that Warner is still being weird about this movie. Nobody cares about offending Catholics anymore... I say this as a practicing catholic atheist

I know it’s weird but having the original WB logo on the bluray is oddly comforting as well
