Thanks, never owned or seen the film, I've heard the subject matter is really strange.

What are the differences between the OOP version and the current version for sale of Salo?

I haven't seen the film either. I think I'd netflix it first, as it's probably one of those movies I'd only watch once.

Are you referring to the non-criterion import of Salo? It's Region Locked "B" for one....

The original Criterion Salo went out of print very quickly because of some rights issues I think. It was very rare and sold for outrageous prices on the internet. After a number of years Criterion re-aquired the rights and put out a new version. I believe they did a new transfer and put it in slick new packaging ,so that would be the difference.

No amount of warning could prepare you for this movie ( I hated it), proceed with caution.

Thanks for the warning... I've seen some disturbing movies (I spit on your grave) but this Salo movie looks worse in terms of disturbing content than that. Plus, I love revenge flicks

It's in my netflix que.

"Salò" isn't really about revenge, but you should still enjoy its own brand of "sickness." When I watch "Salò," I like to just consider myself a voyeur, sit back, and watch in excitement as the events unfold. We're all voyeurs at heart, anyway, aren't we?

I mean... the things that run through my mind daily are worse than anything "Salò" could ever show, ya know? Plus, at this point in time, much of what was shocking in 1975 pales in comparison to how desensitized people are today.

Seriously, though, if you can sit through "I Spit On Your Grave," then you'll have no problems with "Salò." It's nothing shocking that we didn't already see at the end of John Waters' "Pink Flamingos" in 1972... or, if anyone's a fan of GG Allin's music and has seen the "Hated" documentary. Well... enjoy!

it's also has a brief 'poem' scene that is not in the print that Criterion sourced/transferred.

Just got my Third Man in the mail yesterday. The slipcover for it was damaged on the edges. Very poor packaging. I read where you guys were discussing it. It really pales in comparison to my Seventh Seal and For All Mankind.

I think Criterion did a compare/contrast on there website that may have shown the poem scene. So, if you need more Salo (why?) you can watch it there, if it's still posted.

Hang in there I think they are gonna start selling plastic style cases for releases like Third Man etc. I HOPE. At least they have hinted towards this. I am gonna replace all mine.

My THIRD MAN is not in the best condition either. My Old standard 2 Disc DVD was MINT but then again that packaging was sturdy in comparison.

Do you know which other titles have the same open style paper case with slipcovers? Repulsion is being shipped to me and I hope it's like the Seventh Seal.

It'd be great to get a proper case for Third Man, hopefully with a case insert as well - the art on the front cover that shows through to the inside of the case. If not, I'm sure we could create one or find one someone has created.

Do you know what their reasoning was for using these style cases? Were they trying to save on plastic?

Mr White, I hope you were able to get a BD of Repulsion at Barnes as part of their sale. Those prices are great although I guess Amazon.com has it for 19.99 also. I had an extra 20% of coupon and got mine for 15.50ish w/ tax.

Tomorrow I will do one last run at purchasing from their 50% off Sale.

the one thing I have noticed is that a bunch of titles are being taken off Barnes & Nobles website such as Night and the City (which did have a long backorder wait) the one set I wanted and was gonna do a store order for was ORPHIC TRILOGY, and it was listed until the other day then I think Tues it stated on the .com that that set is NOT available to order at this time but may be back at a later date.

Honeymoon Killers was listed the other day on the site and now it is missing in action also. And Most Dangerous Game is now listed on .com as Legend FIlms as the distrib (online Barnes issue error I am sure) and has a new cheap price tag attached.

also I found a mint condition Eric Rohmer Six moral Tales box set at a local Barnes but isn't listed online at all any more I got it for 38.68ish w/ tax (had a 20% off coupon w/ member discount.

for those who have the card and want an extra 20% coupon for stores here is the link to print it. it EXP JULY 31st
http://www.barnesandnoble.com/email/nonav.asp?PID=29053

so there are some issues finding all the Criterion titles.

I know I have dropped a LOT on this sale though. :-)

It is indeed, got mine on Monday! Though between work and this whole "house buying process" there has not been enough time to watch it.

Someday, I'll get caught up on all my movies!
