![]() I'd never do it by spine number - just too hard to find what I want. But I'm thinking of storing them together in alphabetical order. The only problem is that things like the Bergman and Zatoichi sets won't fit on the shelves, so they'll have to be stored separately from everything else. |

Yeah, I do keep a fairly lean collection; only around 250; and only 150 of those are in my chronological "Top Tier" (the rest are filed under "Tier Two/Guilty Pleasures"). When I look at my "Top Tier" library, I love to see only those titles that really make my cinephile heart flutter. If it doesn't cause that very definite (yet intangible) reaction in me, I either demote it to "Tier Two/Guilty Pleasure" or sell it.

Years and years ago -- I can't even say how long ago it was -- I tried having my DVDs stored chronologically. That worked really well for about ... 6 months.
![]() Eventually, when I made the full-on move to Blu-ray, I separated DVD and BD, and also kept Criterion titles separate as well. Then, I ran out of shelf-space. And now, as frustrating as it is, I'm trying to figure out how to re-organize EVERYTHING. So, it's chaos ... and worse. For example, it took me two nights to find the recently purchased Mission Impossible box-set. So, getting everything in some sort of sensible order is my next task. I'm just not sure how long it will take me. |

I don't know why I don't have Its a mad mad mad world in my collection its definitely a classic. I'll probably get that one this sale. I recommend a Charlie Chaplin film in your collection, my favorite is Modern times. My recommendations for your collection would be For classic Hollywood noir I'd go with Gilda, for 70s gritty crime film I love The friends of Eddie Coyle andd for Horror I'd get the Brood |

Paths of Glory is another film that I consider essential, but it's not what I'd call a war film or a courtroom drama - much more an anti-war film. There are elements of both within it, but it's more about the psychology of heroism & cowardice. It's brilliant early Kubrick and it's my favorite Kirk Douglas film. If you have the DVD, that's a good way to see what you think. I had to triple check that you didn't have The Night of the Hunter and recommend it with no reservations. Sounds like you're on to it. As for the others, I think Blow Out is extremely safe as well. Tampopo is also quite safe, but maybe a little whimsical. At least watch the trailer. If it grabs you, the movie probably will too - it has a lot of heart. The Lure is if you're looking for something off the main menu. It's very much a love it or hate it kind of film. But if you're intrigued by sexy mermaid horror musicals, I'd say it's worth digging in to. If you hate the music, I'd let it go. |
