Can anyone confirm if Eyes Without a Face has gone OOP? It's unavailable on Criterion.com and B&N does not offer shipping on it.

Criterion usually mentions when a title would go OOP and the DVD is still listed as available(which would be unavailable were this indeed OOP). Probably between print runs

This was the reason why I bought a multi-region player. And I have the comic in 4 different formats now! LOL

I don't know how many of you are Pokemon fans, but one of the new Pokemon is based of our beloved Charlie Chaplin.

Just thought I should share with you all

I've always been mixed about Cavalcade, but what's wrong with The Broadway Melody? By no means some masterpiece, but it is quite an enjoyable film with ample technical finesse to put it beyond many films of the era.

They had to make up for ignoring Fellowship. The mainstream hadn't picked up on LOTR by that point.

We all know the oscars are bullsh!t but it shouldn't have mattered if they hadn't picked up on it. It's not a popularity contest but what is best - or should be at least

But that's just it. They didn't appreciate the first film's quality because the mainstream hadn't caught on.

Naming the best picture of a certain year in that year is silly to begin with. It takes years to figure out if a film is actually great or not. Some of the best movies ever weren’t even nominated: Vertigo (most of Hitchcock’s best films for that matter), Badlands, 2001 : A Space Odyssey, The Night of the Hunter, Rio Bravo, etc. And some of these didn’t receive any Oscar noms. Ridiculous, but not surprising.

With regards to Criterion blind buys, some have turned out to be great, but quite a few were watched once and then sold.

Here are some of the best ones:

-Marketa Lazarova (a fantastic film that I don't think gets enough attention)
-Pale Flower (a great Japanese neo-noir)
-They Live By Night (a terrific film noir that doesn't get talked about much)
-Modern Times (it's a bona fide classic, but I'd never seen it prior to buying the Criterion edition )

Adore All That Heaven Allows. The only Sirk movie I love more is Imitation of Life. I have the blu rays for both, but it would be wonderful if Criterion released Imitation of Life.

This is my final roll call on this fall's Barnes & Noble sale—I spent a pretty penny, but I filled in a lot of gaps and upgraded multiple titles I already had on DVD, which I'm happy about. I always hold off on doing that because it's more of a thrill to get something "new," but I'm glad I finally upgraded on some of these, and the B&N sale is the perfect time to do that. Ride with the Devil was the only title I didn't already own on DVD.

I actually had what I thought was a very good friend cut off our friendship after I refused to go see a Sirk double feature with him at a revival theater in Los Angeles. It was the 90's and I just wasn't into what I thought were nothing more than over the top stylized melodramas. I still think what my friend did was a really strange overreaction, but I guess Sirk love goes deep with some people.

Ironically, I've since grown to really appreciate Sirk and as far as his melodramas go, I haven't seen a bad one yet. I think ALL THAT HEAVEN ALLOWS has to be my favorite, with WRITTEN ON THE WIND a close second. I have the UK Blu of A TIME TO LIVE AND A TIME TO DIE, but I haven't watched it yet. I understand that was one of Sirk's personal favorites?

The Tarnished Angels and There’s Always Tomorrow are my favourites.

Also think your friend’s reaction is in line with those of some characters in Sirk’s films.

Regarding Eyes without a Face—it is odd that the DVD is still available on Criterion's website, while the Blu-ray is not. It doesn't seem to be for sale anywhere online. I also never noticed that they apparently did not release an upgraded DVD when the Blu-ray came out (which they tend to do with most titles).

It is strange but like StarDestroyer said...they are likely between prints but not being able to find it anywhere online tells me the stock is really depleted. It does make you wonder though.
