I like the menus on Criterion films. Really like the fact that you can go back to where you left off if you need to pause for a bit. Many of my blu ray’s do not let you go to where you left off. The menus are user friendly.

I don’t think anyone’s ever brought up the fact that Criterion discs don’t have FBI warnings. I’m not complaining, but I first thought it was odd because I thought there was some kind of law requiring them.

According to Rosalie Varda, a Criterion boxset of her mother's films is scheduled for 2020

This 24 DVD set was recently released in France:

https://www.cine-tamaris.fr/le-nouve...da-est-arrive/

According to IndieWire, Rosalie Varda has plans for a similar project with Criterion in 2020.

https://www.indiewire.com/2019/09/ag...ew-1202171080/

So it could be something really big, but it might be DVD only.

Nearly done with watching THE ICE STORM

And wow the transfer looks worse than ever.

Horribly digital.

Maybe Arrow UK Can issue a release with an all new transfer. This one is just bad.

Fox title, so highly doubt it.

For the first time in what feels like forever... I'm actually not in the mood to watch my annual tradition of The Ice Storm.

But that I'd rather watch this instead tonight!

I watched All That Jazz last night for the first time.

Definitely liked it a lot, very fun picture.

But if I have one criticism, it’s the lack of balance between the dream world and the real world. In my opinion, the story is too heavily weighted toward the former.

Towards the back half the dream scenes started to lose their effectiveness for me. I wanted a few more straight reality scenes mixed into the narrative. There was a little too much icing and not enough cake.

...but this was a good blind buy.

Apologies as this may have been asked before earlier in this thread, but what's the chance of Criterion doing a Melville box? So many of their Melville titles are either out of print or never made it to blu. I'd love to see it happen.

Some of the titles are with Kino now through there deal with Studiocanal. Still a good chance for Criterion to release Le Cercle Rouge and Le Deuxième Souffle(not with SC) as the KL Insider said they don't have them and the latter has the Criterion branding on TV broadcasts.

Yep forgot about that one. I couldn't remember if the KL Insider ever shot it down as coming from Kino. I have the UK Essential Melville box and it along with Leon Morin, Priest were the two Melville titles I still need to watch.

^Leon Morin was okey-dokey for me but Army of Shadows is an essential, one of my favorite Melville films.

Criterion's Army of Shadows and Le Cercle Rogue are two of the jewels of my collection.

Really want to hold onto to Leon Morin, but I'll probably have to part ways with it in favor of Kino's release.

Kino's editions of Bob Le Flambeur, Le Doulos, and Leon Morin, Priest are excellent. All from StudioCanal 4K restorations. The last is even the longer director's cut, which isn't on the OOP Criterion disc. Perhaps not a replacement for Criterion editions, but absolutely worth picking up. They have Un Flic coming soon, too.

The most I'd expect would be Criterion bringing Army of Shadows and Le Cercle Rouge back into print, upgrade Les Enfants Terribles, and maybe getting When You Read This Letter from Gaumont (it'll be either them or Cohen most likely).

(Worth noting that Le Silence De Le Mer and Le Samourai are in print on Blu-ray from Criterion, plus Cohen has Two Men from Manhattan)
