Practically fell in love with French cinema because of her. Woman had a presence like no other. I was lucky to see her speak about Pierrot Le Fou and Band of Outsiders a few years ago. RIP.

It's been a rough year for some of Criterion's most iconic actresses:

Anna Karina, Bibi Andersson, Machiko Kyo.

Got a reply back from Mulvaney re: Bigger than Life disc rot. Seems there may be some other discs that are affected to a lesser degree, including Bigger Than Life. Fortunately, all my other discs included on this list were not affected and had the BVDL letters.

"In addition to the confirmed list, please review any copies of the following you may have in your collection:
Gomorrah
Wings of Desire
Vivre Sa Vie
8 1/2
A Christmas Tale
Days of Heaven
In the Realm of the Senses
Kagemusha
Lola Montes
Stagecoach
Paths of Glory
Bigger Than Life
Revanche

These titles seem to have less discs that were affected. Not all runs of these discs were affected with the disc rot. The best way to tell if your disc from the list is defective is by looking on the underside of the disc (the shiny side) and if you see the letters 'BVDL' your disc will be fine. If you don't see those letters you should send in your disc."

Were these discs you had had from their original release? Because I thought they said most of these had been corrected with reprints from a different plant.

Just my Bigger Than Life disc. All my others were apparently from later unaffected pressings.

If it has BVDL on the disc ring then you should be fine? I think I looked at my 81/2 disc to confirm it was okay but it’s been awhile and now Ive forgotten. I just recently bought Gomorrah and need to check I guess

I have it.

It's a 3:41:59 length film on one DVD. Single Layer.

MPEG-2 average bitrate of 4MBPS. @ 480i.

Korean and English Subtitles.

Dolby Digital 192kbps Japanese Audio 1 Track.

Criterions of K.Mizguchi if I could rank...not that it matters...but haven't seen his whole body of work...
1. Ugetsu
2. Sansho The Balliff (Amazing use of B&W)
3/4/5. Tie 3-way = Fallen Women Boxset/Life of Oharu/Story of The Last Crysantium
6. Story from Chickamatsu

I haven't watched 47 ronin. I saw your post and grabbed it off the shelf to see if I had even opened it LOL just poped it in the Xbox X to post details. Almost 4 hous of Subs is gonna be a challenge.

My eyes are getting to the point where I have some difficulty reading print that small.

Doesn’t a lack of a rusty-looking Orange/yellowish ring indicate that the disc is fine?

...I’ve had 8 1/2 and Days of Heaven for several years.

Well my STAGECOACH is fine, but it looks like I have "suspect" copies of 8 1/2, DAYS OF HEAVEN, and WINGS OF DESIRE. None of them have any signs of discoloration on the disc itself, though. Hmmm. Can anyone reiterate for me or point me to a previous post that outlines the process of how to send these discs in? Much appreciated.

Does Criterion usually have an announcement in December for upcoming films, or am I thinking of someone else?

Speaking of Machiko Kyo and Yasujiro Ozu, the UK Eureka Blu-ray of Floating Weeds (1959), which I haven't bought till this day expecting Criterion release, seems to be gone OOP recently. The film's been restored in 4K after the Eureka edition and was released on Blu in Japan in 2018, so I hope Criterion will upgrade their DVD with that, including the 1934 silent version.

It's my most wanted Criterion (if not movie in general). I got to see the new restoration in theaters earlier, as part of a series/tribute for Machiko Kyo, and the transfer looked incredible. I expected it to come out this year, so I really hope it does come out in 2020. I don't know if The Story of Floating Weeds got any sort of newer restoration like the remake, but I'm sure Criterion would still include it with their eventual release.

I am absolutely heartbroken to hear the news. She was an inspiration to me and I was hoping to meet her some day. I'm binge watching her films tonight.
