I wasn't going to pay the OOP price for 'Chungking Express', so if that one is back in print it will be nice to finally get it.

As for a Bruce Lee collection, I think there's a remake of 'Enter the Dragon' in the works and that might trigger a 4K release of the original. I'll hold out for that. As for his other films, I'll sit tight with the editions of the ones I have.

And if they keep the Almodovar releases coming, I'll probably buy more Criterion releases than ever.

Enter the Dragon sorely needs the Theatrical Version on BD - that horrible John Little re-dub scene where Bruce sounds like a posh Elmer Fudd is so annoying!

Those people conveniently forget about the Bergman box.

Criterion

The Fellini set could be announced separately from the monthly announcement slate. It may depend on how many films will be in the set. It already has one thing in common with the Bergman set - celebrating a centennial.

If it's announced in January then my guess is it would be announced before 1/15. The leaves us with the rest of this week, next week and the 13th and 14th (Monday and Tuesday, respectively). I don't think it would be announced on 1/20 - also MLK day.

But why? Criterion will eventually be releasing The Mirror, Kino has The Sacrifice, and all his other major works have been released by Criterion already, except Nostalgia (not sure if Criterion has the rights for that one, but I don't think so).

With Bergman, Fellini, Wong Kar Wai, etc, there were (are) a substantial number of films that hadn't been released yet, and some new remasters that Criterion upgraded. So a box set for them makes sense over one where almost all the remastered works are already out there.

I hope Criterion’s 2020 lineup doesn’t solely consist of Fellini for their Italian films. There is a ton of stuff by Monicelli, Risi, Scola, etc. that isn’t available yet.

Simply Fellinni isnt my style man. His discs have been around forever too. 8.5 might have been the first CC I watched. It was the dvd and that was maybe 18+ years back. I don't think I've watched a Wong Kar Wai film. That could be an interesting set. I like the Bergmen set, but not sure if you or I need all his stuff. Persona, Wild Strawberries, and the chess one are kinda enough for me. Good point. Maybe you're more right than me.

I'm open to importing, though I haven't done much of that from Asia. Most of my importing has been from the UK, with a fair amount from Germany as well, and a few from France. At least on BD. Back in my DVD days, I imported a lot of discs from Japan and Australia.

But thanks for this link. I'll give it a try.

I just watched The Daytrippers for the first time on the new Criterion DVD that I borrowed from the library. I really liked this movie after letting it process a bit, and after watching all of the supplements too. It reminds me of a movie like After Hours, where it takes place within 24 hours and you're on board for a joyride of sorts. It's certainly a unique type of film, and once you've seen it, you'll probably never forget it. It might be a bit of an earworm, as it slowly makes its ways into your memories where it sticks around for a long time. And damn, Parker Posey is insanely cute, so just watching her at 26 years old here on screen is alone worth the price of admission.

One other thing that I must mention. I watched the short/silent film The Hatbox on the Criterion supplements and was BLOWN AWAY when I recognized the bridge, the steps, and the older stone bridge in the park where Greg Mottola shot this 16mm short in 1985. I run around on that trail and probably past that bridge hundreds of times in my life, and always wondered if anyone had shot a movie near that old stone Tufa bridge, since its so cinematic looking. My questions were answered whilst watching this little silent film of his. It's also cool Greg Mottola took film classes at Pittsburgh Filmmakers school, because I did too, and even shot and edited my own super 8mm films there back in the early 2000s. Super awesome that I shared the same editing equipment with this director, and had the same teachers he did (about 15 years later).

Here's more info on the Tufa bridges in Schenley Park (about 10 min. from my house by bicycle), plus a picture: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tufa_Bridges

Fellini was gonna happen bc of his 100th and many of his films aren’t available either. Once it’s done I’m sure they can concentrate on more Italian films. I want more too.

And Criterion may actually be trying to acquire the rights to said films behind the scenes to return it to the Collection. I'm looking super forward to a Bruce Lee set because I missed out on the Shout set and now I don't have to pay scalper prices. I also am super happy about Fellini since I've only watched a few of his films(8 1/2, La Dolce Vita, La Strada) and even more so for WKW after discovering the masterpiece, Chungking Express for the first time a few years ago. It really blew me away in how great it was. Though, yeah I would like to see some Kurosawa on BluRay like Stray Dog, The Bad Sleep Well, and even though I owned the 4K 2-disc remastered version of Ran released by SC it be nice if Americans/Canadians could buy it.

Chungking is so goood. I watched it originally because of the Tarantino Presents dvd and became obsessed with WKW for awhile. I wonder what we’ll get in the WKW box. I expect the ones Kino had, but I’ll be thrilled if they get 2046! My Blueberry Nights isn’t great but I love its look and would watch again on a bluray
