When it was announced that the Coens were making a film for Netflix I found myself in the odd predicament of wanting the film to be lackluster, just so I wouldn't care about not being able to own it. It WAS a pretty good film, but not top tier Coen Brothers. Which was a relief, because now I don't need to own it.

For everyone else though I hope it happens.

The Irishman
The Other Side of the Wind
The Meyerowitz Stories (New and Selected)
Into The Inferno

Those are the ones I want the most. In that order.

I on the other hand thought Ballad of Buster Scruggs a terrific multi-flavored anthology (first saw it on a big screen at a film fest) and I would any day re-watch it over No Country or Inside Llewyn Davis. I found The Irishman on the other hand a snoozer with a few good moments.

I look forward to owning both The Irishman and Buster Scruggs. Would love to see both get Criterion releases.

Don't know if there was any official statement about it, but there was bad blood between the director and the lead actors, accusations that he had emotionally exploited them during the filming and they were extremely uncomfortable about the whole experience. It was probably unlikely that they would all willingly participate in supplements about the film, without expressing slanging each other.

I definitely didn't care for Buster Scruggs either. It had a monotonous tone to me with only a couple of standout episodes.

Way before the release, I think I saw that the Coens were going to do a series for Netflix, and the next thing I recall was reading was about the movie. Makes me wonder if the series just didn't make it to completion (or maybe the screen) and we ended up with Buster Scruggs instead. That would go a long way toward explaining what we got.

Agreed. When Roma was announced, I was happy because it might mean Buster Scruggs could be released someday.

I thought that Buster Scruggs was the proposed series (or was just rumored to be a series), but it turned out to be a film instead.

I thought it [Buster Scruggs] was a wonderful film and pure Coen Brothers through and through with some darkly hilarious moments. I don't know if I'd go so far as to put it ahead of No Country, but it's far better than their previous film, Hail Caesar, as well as the likes of Intolerable Cruelty or Burn After Reading.

I’d buy Roma and Marriage Story, etc on disc eventually but I’m in zero rush. I have Netflix and they’ll be on there forever and they look good in 4K streaming

If anyone wants Buster Scruggs, I would send requests to Criterion via their email: suggestions@criterion.com I've used it a few times, and I know at least one occasion they used my suggestion.

I really, really doubt that Criterion needs any encouragement to release a Coen Bros. film.

I'd still get the BFI release since it's extremely unlikely we're getting a US edition of that cut with the Carl Davis score.

I'm elated about this news on Marriage Story. It's one of my favorites of the year, and I'm just so happy to see another Netflix film get a physical release.

I've never done so, but I think I'll send them one. They've probably received a lot of requests for The Irishman and Buster Scruggs, so I'm going to email them about Mudbound and Private Life. I want to add those movies to my collection so bad.

If and when I get it will be the BFI version since we will never get the Davis score, but I don't want to get it now if we are getting a longer cut soon. If were still a long ways off from getting a longer version then I'll probably go ahead and make the plunge sometime this year.

The Film Foundation is working on this. In fact, it appears to have been completed, and there was a screening at Lincoln Center back in October.

Happy about Marriage Story. And I'd definitely want Buster Scruggs on Criterion.

This is really good news. Dodsworth is my favorite Sinclair Lewis novel, and I thought the film adaptation was very true to the spirit of the novel.

I'd also love to see Arrowsmith come out on blu, which is part of the Samuel Goldwyn library. Did those early titles end up with Warner? There are some great titles there, especially Stella Dallas (1937), which would make a great Criterion release packaged with the 1925 version.

This got my hopes up Dodsworth is a fine film and deserves a great release. I've been holding on to my muddy old MGM DVD for ages.

I think all the Samuel Goldwyn titles except The Hurricane which is back with MGM/UA are with Warner.

I thought the opposite: that Warner got it back, leading Kino to lose it and discontinue their release. I was wondering if a new restoration could eventually come from the Archive Collection.
