i think the best type of films are films that bring on worthwhile discussions after the film ends, and then that discussion makes you want to see it again. and not just discussion of reciting quotes or laughing at scenes, but actually discussing and dissecting the film and it's meanings. i love films that make me do that.

While I do agree that plot is important in movies, and that resulting discussions are really really interesting, but I think that in a movie direction comes first and foremost. (after all, thats all that seperates a movie from book)

Looks like Criterion Cast's twitter is posting trailers again this month before announcement day. He has one trailer up (which I'm pretty excited about) but I won't post it here although I'm sure someone will pretty soon. Criterion Cast has been making Criterion announcement day really anticlimactic.

I was just looking at Criterion Cast's YouTube channel and it looks like they posted another trailer earlier. No word of it on their twitter though. Both releases would be great.

Ya. Both are probably in my top 10-15 films of all-time, haha.

Woody Allen is dead set against special features. So, that kind of eliminates a Criterion Collection release.

I can't get the 25% to work on any Criterion titles - tried Red Shoes, Magician, Seven Samurai just to see if it would work. It works on non Criterion only for me, anybody else find this?

Its just a very confusing movie overall, and trust me, you will have zero intention and desire to revisit it after its finished. Its just a movie thats meant to be watched only once.

Rent it.
I have a negative opinion as well. I wouldn't recommend it as a buy, stream it on netflix if you can. Anthony Dod Mantle's DP work is gorgeous but I don't really think it is as deep as many people seem to think it is. It comes off as von Trier just trying too hard, with cheap "shock" disguised as some sort of psychological depth. Apparently the supplements are much more technical in nature too, so if you're looking for Lars to spill the beans about what everything means, then look elsewhere.

As was said on Mubi:
Quote:
I was offended that that LvT thought he could get people to think that the film is more important than it is because it has shocking images.
But then again if you watch and enjoy it, I'm sure Criterion's A/V treatment is great. Beautiful film to look at.

If you notice on the WEB SITE listings of the titles Criterion titles can't take other discounts. However stores can accept coupons etc.

They started not letting coupons etc be used on Criterion titles last sale.

I love Woody Allen too. Very few of his films have been released on BD so far.
I don't think I have seen Sleeper, so I have got to check it out.

Decided to go back for Bigger Than Life yesterday. Also picked up Breathless, Vivre Sa Vie and 8 1/2. This sale has been great for my collection, but hard on my wallet

You can do it for releases already out (I think), but as per the coupon..."no preorders", unless the kindly person at the register can override it.

Wait a minute, I never mentioned anything about defecating, rkish. People can sit on a toilet without defecating, correct? Maybe, I was sitting on the toilet with the lid down? Maybe, I like to sit on the toilet while simply urinating?

CC

But, you're right... there were copious amounts of defecation going on.

B&N cancelled one of my items (EL NORTE) and the estimated shipping date is 11/30

They had the estimated shipping date for me with Yojimbo/Sanjuro as the 24th, but must have got it in because it shipped. I'm happy they didn't cancel that one.

Maybe reorder it? Right now B&N says El Norte ships within 24 hours. I got the impression they were canceling orders that had longer waits for shipping times.
