Wow, look what my mail carrier just brought to my door!

Both the digipacks, Roma and Lone Wolf and Cub are in pristine condition. I mean, it’s as if they handed them to me right off the production line.

I can’t believe how fast these arrived. Time to send a thank you message to Criterion.

During the B&N sale in November I got the Tati set and On the waterfont and I know EXACTLY what you mean. The copies I got seemed invincible, factory line fresh no damage whatsoever. It's s good feeling

Yup, mine all arrived in tip top shape. Gave 'em all the cursory examination and then began the tedious task of aligning my spines. Yea, I'm super anal like that. Lettering has to be perfectly parallel to the spine and exactly centered. Bit of a psycho I guess. I can neither confirm nor deny if I have a couple bodies in my basement freezer

However, I couldnt let my $50 gift card go to waste (or rather I didn’t want to wait for the next flash sale!) and I blind bought Pasolini titles. I recently did a deep dive into his life and had to finally check these films out; so my order which is on its way is:The Trilogy of Life and Teorema. I have faith in these purchases. For whatever it’s worth, I own Salo and have watched it more than once.

I also can’t wait to check our Abel Ferrara’s Pasolini with Willem Dafoe. Random fact: there is an early video of Dafoe of YouTube where he pronounces his name as “William DAfoe” emphasis on DA.
I LOVE Pasolini. I have all of his films and novels. Much of his poetry, too.

Also, what's really interesting about Ferrara's film of "Pasolini" is, it has not only Dafoe playing Pasolini at the very end of his life, it also features footage of "Salo" as he's finishing it, AND most interestingly, Ferrara actually films segments of Pasolini's unfinished last novel, "Petrolio", and Pasolini's last unfinished script, "Porno Teo Kolossal". The latter features the real Ninetto Davoli, who was in most of Pasolini's films (and was Pasolini's lover and friend at one time). That Ferrara chose to film things Pasolini never got to, makes it almost a collaboration between Pasolini and Ferrara, rather than just a standard biopic. It's just that people need to know a good bit about Pasolini to get the intended effect here. Otherwise, this is why casual viewers said the film made no sense to them. If one is an established fan of Pasolini, this is quite moving.

I didn't say they were whole. You gotta cut 'em up. Wrap 'em in butcher paper and mark them "Venison". What, do you think I'm an idiot?!

Glad to see I'm not the only one who picked up "Tunes of Glory".

I've been on a bit of a Sir Alec Guinness kick, of late. I picked up Kind Hearts and Coronets and The Man in the White Suit during Kino's End of the Decade sale. Tunes of Glory is just the latest addition to a growing collection that includes Lawrence of Arabia, The Bridge On the River Kwai, Doctor Zhivago, A Passage to India and Star Wars.

Now, I just have to hope Criterion will give us Oliver Twist and Great Expectations on blu-ray. I want those badly. Alec Guinness and David Lean is one of the great actor-director pairings in film history, and I adore those two Dickens adaptations. I want to own everything Guinness has done. I'm getting there.

Another Tunes of Glory (blind) buyer here. But while I am fond of Alec Guinness (especially his Ealing comedies), it was more for the versatile Ronald Neame, whose I Could Go On Singing and The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie were two of my favorite discoveries among Twilight Time releases, not to mention Criterion's own Hopscotch or The Poseidon Adventure.
