I've only had to contact them once before about a damage issue, but I'm certainly going to contact them again. I just got my sale order today, and I received what is very clearly a used copy of Secret Sunshine. It has a Books-A-Million sticker on it, and while I didn't unseal it (which is partially sealed with tape), I can clearly see there is no booklet inside. Whoever runs their warehouse cannot allow something like this to happen. I don't even know why such a copy would be anywhere near what they sell through their online store.

Wow i had no idea he was that old. Great guy. In addition to his show, I enjoyed his minor television roles, and cameos too, like on Arrested Development.

Anyone know what this tweet was about? Was it their new monthly clue?

Noticed an entry on the site for an upcoming German release of David Lean's Oliver Twist. I know nothing about the label (Pidax), but translating the product description on Amazon, the two cuts are the "German" version and the "Long" version (the original German release was edited, and I assume the "Long" version is the full 116 minute cut):

Posting for info purposes as it is an often-requested Criterion upgrade, and as a follow-up to some discussion of the French release here last year, starting around post #185685:

There was word a year or two back that they were working on it. I think the source was a tweet, from Spike Lee or maybe the DP or editor. This definitely isn't the first time it's come up, but the previous mention was only slightly less vague.

I recently picked up All That Jazz. What a fantastic release and film! I saw it for the first time a few years ago and I really enjoyed it but I loved it even more on my recent viewing when I got the blu ray a couple weeks ago! Transfer and audio are outstanding. I really hope Bob Fosse's other masterpiece Star 80 gets a blu ray soon!

EDIT: For anyone that might know (as I couldn't find specifics in the booklet). Recently the New Beverly Cinema screened an incredibly rare 35mm print with 3-track mag sound for All That Jazz. Was one of those prints possibly used for the ultra rare 3.0 DTS-HD MA audio track on the blu ray?

For the Bruce Lee set, I wonder if Enter the Dragon will be added given that Criterion given that they have a relationship with Warner Bros?

Default La Bête Humaine?

I've always wondered what the story was with this title. It got a BluRay release in France in 2013 so it seems there's a serviceable upgrade for BluRay. To my knowledge the film is owned by Studiocanal but the old Criterion DVD is still in print and when its shown on TV it has the old Canal+ logo before the film is played. This was always one of my favorite French films and favs of Jean Renoir.

For those who haven't grabbed it yet. It's down to $144.99 on Amazon.

there are also two Buñuel films slated, according to the site and Amazon UK, to be released in 2022 by SC.

Alphaville was released by Kino so that's one title gone for a Godard set. They also have a lot of his post late 60s films. Pierrot le fou is always a good bet to come back into print now that we know Studiocanal titles are starting to come back into print as Army of Shadows did. The KL Insider said that Contempt is still with Lionsgate. Made in U.S.A could be a future upgrade I suppose.

I'd really like a Bunel boxset...I might just pay the piper and get a Sony region free blu ray player and import though...

I got Criterion's newsletter about Tarkovsky on the Criterion Channel and was wondering, does a film streaming on the channel ever correlate to a physical release? I'd assume the rights are totally different, but I was just curious because I saw The Mirror listed as one of the titles, and I'd still love a region A release. Also, sorry if this gets asked all of the time!

Not really. The channel has hundreds of movies on rotation that will likely never get a BD release from Criterion.

I wonder how common is it for Criterion allowing rights to films to lapse. At this point, I'm hoping they lose the rights to Hunter in the Dark which they have had for a little over ten years. They have it in HD, but don't seem interested in the film. I would love to see Arrow release it, and could see them doing a fantastic job with it.
