I do too. I was just as anxious about that. Guess I have nothing to fear.

In all seriousness, that would make a pretty badass Criterion release.

Special Features:

-Jean Claude Van Damme commentary track
-Van Damme visits the Closet while wearing a tank top
-Essay by the late Donald Richie on the cultural impact of Bloodsport on Asian cinema.
-Ray Jackson and Donald Gibbs roundtable discussion
-Behind the scenes footage of Bolo Yeung getting drunk and beating up production assistants

Any other baseball movies in the Criterion Collection?

In fact, I was just chatting with a friend the other night about sports movies. I mentioned that a good sports movie is a good movie, and I don't have to like sports to enjoy The Natural or North Dallas Forty. Kind of like how I'm not religious, but enjoy Biblical epics like The Ten Commandments or The Greatest Story Ever Told regardless.
I guess this is not what jw007 is looking for, but there is another baseball movie in the Criterion Collection, only on DVD.

I Will Buy You (1956), in Eclipse Series 38: Masaki Kobayashi Against the System DVD set, is about a pro baseball scout who is desperate to sign up a promising college player, outsmarting rival scouts and the player's leechlike manager. It's a bleak movie exploring the nature of the cut-throat business and as you can imagine, it's not interested in the game itself. But still a good movie.

In the same vein, I don't particularly need another baseball movie in the Collection but I wouldn't mind the Criterion Blu of Eight Men Out (1988).

Is it too late for Criterion to license Contagion for the collection?

Shipment times are slower though from products sold and shipped by amazon. So you probably won’t get it on release day and may not get it for a good 4-5 days. Just going by what I’ve seen shipment times for in stock Blu-ray’s I’ve added to my cart in the past couple of days

I had the same thought just yesterday. It is Soderbergh and it’s out of print. Even for June it would be some of the most incredible timing ever.

If it’s part of a Soderbergh set I would be ok with it. But there are so many of his that should come out first even with the pandemic. Where Kafka? Steve you been saying you been working on it for a decade so where it at? Also we need a Limey announcement. There’s releases in other countries but not here!

THANK YOU!

And for those previous people annoyed at my CAPS LOCK, too bad!

This is a time for epic conversations and finally you gave me a movie I can see that doesn't star Tim Robbins or Susan Sarandon! Thank the universe!

Well, I can also dust off Field of Dreams of course too.

Or Waterworld.

Although that last one is a real non sequitur from baseball.

But hey, who doesn't love Dennis Hopper who looked like a reject from a Mad Max film!

I don't think it's OOP. It's most likely OOS because demand quickly and heavily increased, for obvious reasons.

It hasn’t been in stock for a long time though and isn’t even on Warner’s online shop. It actually could be out of print for it to be re-issued on the archive label eventually.

Nope, it's out of print. Until recently, I'd been trying to get a new copy of it on blu-ray for well over a year, long before the "virus that shall not be named" crept up on the U.S. Amazon had a price drop on it at that time, I want to say about 18 months ago, and I immediately put an order in to buy it. It was on back order for at least two months. I kept getting email updates from them that the estimated delivery date had been pushed back. Finally, I just cancelled it.

I tried to get a copy from the UK, as they had a region free issue. It wasn't even listed as being on Amazon anymore. I'd scoured Ebay forever up to the start of the year trying to get a new copy to no avail. I finally found a used copy in really nice shape at my local Movie Trading Company a week or so ago, and then I added a digital copy on Vudu. Of course, now people with new copies are selling them for between $30-50.

When I busted my leg five years ago, and spent 5 weeks in the hospital in ICU and quarantine, I made the decision to start adding to my digital library. Not being able to get out of bed just sucks for a cinephile. Now, I'm up to nearly 600 films, and 27 seasons of tv shows. And my friends that are stuck in the house have access to all that content. I'm a physical media guy until they bury me, but digital is a nice alternative option.

Oh, sweet Jesus. I saw your post, and though, "hey, yeah. I haven't watched War and Peace yet." Then I caught your avatar, and suddenly, I'm in the mood for a Hammer horror film. What a conundrum.

He's completely unfamiliar to me and I decided to dive in after rewatching The Handmaiden and wanting to see more of Kim Min-hee, his latest muse. I've really been taken with the modes he operates in, which is kind of like a cross between Eric Rohmer and Woody Allen, and just a dash of Abbas Kiarostami, of all filmmakers. I started from his first with the actress, Right Now, Wrong Then, and have made it nearly to his latest. (I just subscribed to Kanopy in order to watch Grass.)

Anyone else familiar with his work? I can see why he's so taken with Kim Min-hee, outside of her unfathomable beauty. She has a real calm presence that can be modified on a dime for the serious verbal confrontations he seems to love. The Day After is my favorite thus far.
Have you seen Hotel by the River?

Am I missing something here? It seems to be orderable at the usual places - Amazon, Best Buy, Deep Discount...?

Yes, you are. Go to Best Buy. The blu-ray is "sold out". Amazon isn't selling it. A third party seller with a few copies has made them available. When they're gone, it will be unavailable there again, too. Deep Discount has it listed as "backordered", and has for some time.
