Roma, The Cranes Are Flying, Grand Budapest Hotel, The Great Escape, and now Come and See and The Cameraman. The next B&N sale is going to hurt my bank account really badly.

I've been buying the must-have Criterion titles from Bullmoose lately, for $25.97 a pop. They ship out separate items from batch orders as they are stocked, and they're a great little company.

I love how we're all talking excitedly about the new announcements and talking about what we're going to buy in a few months. It feels good to cling to normalcy.

That said, I have a funny feeling that, come June, I'm not going to care in the slightest that Portrait of a Lady on Fire is a standard high definition release and not a UHD title.

In for The Cameraman, Day 1. Haven't been this excited for a Criterion film in a long time. This was the film that got me into silents.

I haven't seen An UnMarried Woman since it was first released ... I'm anxious to revisit it. (I've had a crush on Jill Clayburgh ever since seeing her in Silver Streak).

Same here. Have ordered Leave Her to Heaven, The Great Escape, and Temple Drake from them recently. Lately most of my stateside orders have been from them and Diabolik along with ordering direct from the labels during sales. They package very well, get items out before release date, and ship orders as they become available and there's no sales tax which I go out of my way to avoid if possible.

Where are those available? Similarly Criterion didn’t include the Japanese DVD commentaries for the Godzilla set, despite featuring many of the important cast and crew of the series with the majority of the films in the set instead being barebones. I would have loved to see Mommy’s commentary released with English subtitles but I don’t think it ever has been.

I got The Olympics boxed set during the last Criterion sale and Tokyo Olympiad came with it and it's a nice looking disk. I wonder if some of the other titles from that boxed set will get individual releases.

Does anyone know what happened to Criterion's proposed special edition of Blue is the Warmest Colour?

So far they've ONLY released a vanilla edition BD.

I don't know any of the specifics but the general consensus is that it isn't going to happen. They took down the notification on the website about the special edition a couple of years ago I think. In fact, I think they took it down around the time Kechiche was accused of misconduct on the set and his relationship with the girls soured.

They should've released a special edition instead of the vanilla one they did release, at the time.

As promised, I’ve preordered Come and See direct from Criterion. Threw in Portrait of a Lady on Fire too. Promise made, promise kept. I’m so freaking excited I can barely contain myself.

I agree. I think they were trying to cash in quick on this one.

Personally, I think the art they choose is beautiful. I'm glad it will be out in time for the July sale.

I'm sort of shocked to see Portrait of a Lady on Fire coming to Criterion especially since it was still playing at a local theater here in my city. This was one amazing movie (one of the last films I saw before the theaters shut down here recently). It's an absolutely mesmerizing and meditative experience to say the least. I could probably see myself viewing this again on my home theater.

As for the other titles, I am very interested in seeing Come and See, that's all I know. I had been recently discussing anti-war films in this thread and this is one I must add to my list!

Tokyo Olympiad was perfect timing for the Tokyo Summer Olympics this year (though not sure it will happen now... stay tuned obviously).

An Unmarried Woman will appeal to feminists worldwide, so that's a timely addition to the collection.

... While The Cameraman will be a perfect fit in a serious movie lover's 1920s cinema collection.

Overall, a quite impressive month.

IFC wanted them to get a release out for awards season, so Criterion rushed out the bare bones disc.

Also, I think the director was supposedly working on a new cut of the film and they may have been waiting on that before they went ahead with the special edition.

After at least one actress called out the director during “me too”, they couldn’t continue with special features. “Should’ve” has nothing to do with it, but it sounds cool and tough when you don’t know specifics, I guess.

...(reads the newsletter on Criterion's June releases)...Holy crimoly! I can now put away my decade and a half old Kino DVD of Come and See, upgrade my TCM Archives DVD of The Cameraman and Spite Marriage, get the stand alone on bluray of Ichikawa's Tokyo Olympiad that I've seen, and always wanted, but never owned, pick up a Mazursky film with a great Jill Clayburgh performance and...never heard of Portrait of a Lady on Fire but it looks rather interesting. Well, what do you know? This may be my first 5 for 5 month ever for Criterion announcements. Now I can't wait for next months announcements to let me down slightly again!

I got a $10 OFF your next order e-mail last night, but Criterion didn't list an expiration date. Anyone know how long it might be good for or should I just e-mail them to find out?
