So why defend non-progress again? Who cares . Not sure why i posted LOL oh Solaris looks terrible on Criterion Blu-Ray...
Bad boys for life on 4K for $5 is $5 wasted

And I am sure the market for Tarkovsky’s Solaris on 4k is the same for Bad Biys For Life and Bloodshot...

Glad you posted this... I couldn't remember the Charter rate, but mine renewed at $89.99 too. Best money I've ever spent.

There's a lot of titles listed as "currently unavailable" on Criterion's site that are also difficult to find online. Most are in digipak cases, so it's most likely the titles are between printings. Here's a breakdown of those titles...

Box Sets:

Zatoichi: The Blind Swordsman
The Qatsi Trilogy
By Brakhage: An Anthology, Volumes One and Two
The Essential Jacques Demy

Digipak packaging:

Salo: or the 120 Days of Sodom
Mishima: A Life in Four Chapters
Repo Man
King of the Hill (dual format)
A Hard Day's Night (dual format)
Eraserhead
Mulholland Dr.
The New World
Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb

Regular cases:

In the Mood for Love
Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas
El Norte
Crumb
House

As with a lot of dual format releases, I'd expect King of the Hill and A Hard Day's Night to get Blu-only reissues. UK already got the Blu-only Demy set earlier this year. Zatoichi went OOP once when the initial dual format edition sold out and was replaced with the Blu-only edition. Likely due to the custom nature of the packaging, along with the other digipak releases, new pressings are probably on hold due to the pandemic.

The five "plain case" releases? There's newer remasters for In the Mood for Love, Fear and Loathing, and El Norte. House and Crumb were 2010 releases, so it's probably just time for repressing.

I'd also expect Mulholland Dr. to require changes to the art since while the 2014 release was licensed from Universal, distribution is now with Janus Films via MK2. Similar situation to how when Army of Shadows was finally brought back, the art and master were revised to remove Rialto Pictures since the 2020 edition was licensed directly from StudioCanal.

El Norte's rights might be with Lionsgate now, as they handled the digital distribution of the restoration. (Which means it probably isn't every getting released on disc.)

I had a dream last night that the Hit was finally released by Criterion on Blu-ray. Hoping it happens soon.

I can't imagine any other two actors who could pull it off with such exquisite impeccability.

MGM is holding the US rights of The Unbearable Lightness Of Being. The have already released the HD version in Amazon prime video.

That nails it for me too, Hunta. Personally, I've found no other streaming channel compares and sooner or later it will be the only one I stick with.

The only improvement I would suggest is to try and get some classic TV series befitting the Criterion mission statement on the channel. Amazon Prime has some vintage TV, but otherwise there is precious little of it streaming out there, just lots and lots and lots of recent shows and imports, both of which can be exhausting after awhile in their sameness. Thank goodness my vintage TV on DVD library is stacked, but there are always relatively forgotten shows that Criterion would honor on the channel if the rights holders weren't so short sighted about restorations and just generally greedy. Alas....

My only real complaint with the Channel is that sometimes when a movie is paused the subtitles are no longer in sync when the movie resumes. This doesn't happen all of the time, but it happens enough that I'm hesitant to press pause unless I absolutely have to.

Another complaint is that many of the movies have not received the "Criterion Treatment." In other words, they've not been cleaned up. I don't blame Criterion for this, as that is out of their control. It's more of an observation than a complaint.

I think some people found that buying Itunes Card when they are at 20% discount allowed you to do a yearly membership for $80.

I'm not sure if there's a way for a charter member to pay the annual fee via Itunes/AppleTV, but for folks that aren't charter or like me screwed up initially setting up as a monthly, then too late realized they couldn't change to Annual before the service started it's a way to save a few $$$

I love this idea! TV shows would really enhance the value of The Criterion Channel.

As it is, the Channel is already the streaming service I use the most.

I've noticed this too. It's probably still hit or miss, but I remember the problem being much worse before than it is now.

I agree, but at the same time, sometimes it's fun to watch something that has kind of a "tarnished" look to it - like the weird 1978 movie I watched a few months ago (now expired) called Girlfriends with Eli Wallach in a supporting role as a rabbi. It wasn't great, and I'm not sure I'd even recommend it, but I love that the Channel hosts oddities like that and 1968's Uptight (also expired).

Plus, it took me over the threshold to earn a $50 certificate - which will be great come the next Flash Sale.
When is the net 50% Off Sale? Isn't it around the summer Time?

B&N 50% event typically starts around the Fourth of July holiday (even as early as the end of June), and runs for about a month.

Next Criterion Flash Sale will be October. Then B&N again in November.

Does anyone think Amazon will price match the Bruce Lee set during the July B&N sale? They typically match the box sets if I'm not mistaken.

Contemplating pre ordering at the price it's at now with some Amazon credit.

From memory, Amazon matched the Bergman set at the time of release, which coincided with the B&N sale in November 2018. I don't believe Amazon has an official price-match policy for Criterion, but they may do it.

MGM do not hold rights for the film. They've reverted back to the Saul Zaentz Company.

I've chatted with Criterion and their tech people about this issue and they can't seem to fix it, even though every other streaming service has no issue. It's apparently a Roku-only issue.

Repo Man is arguably the most insanely bizarre “fun” movie ever made.

You just won’t find a lot of films that are so insanely bizarre and fun at the same time.

...what a trip.
