Looks like we can expect a box design/size similar to Ingmar Bergman's Cinema.

The Fellini box will likely be similar, while the Wong Kar-Wai box will be like the Bruce Lee and Jacques Tati boxes.

There’s not one on the Bergman set either.

Should we assume that each disc in the Varda Box will contain 2 or more films? Makes me nervous

I cleared theatrical rights for the film from Zaentz a few years back and their website says 'The Saul Zaentz Company owns all rights to its films,
including DVD, Theatrical and Television.' I wonder why Warner/MGM are mentioned on the streaming sites.

Warner is obviously the home video distributor, but MGM would have inherited whatever rights Orion had since they released the film theatrically in the US.

Likewise, the long-OOP Criterion DVD was licensed from Orion since they still had home video rights at the time (as were Robocop and The Silence of the Lambs).

Well, a lot of the films are very short features, 80 mins or less, and some of them are straight-up short subjects, so I don’t think they’ll be crowding the discs or anything.

It's definitely no longer with MGM. Those theatrical rights have expired and reverted back to the original producer, Zaentz (as it did with Amadeus + One Flew over the cuckoo's nest). My guess is the streaming services/iTunes aren't really that trustworthy and have the info wrong (prior rightsholders/distributors). Warner was the home video distributor so the big question is whether their licensing agreement with Zaentz has been extended or not.

The noticeable lack of excitement over this set is kind of disheartening. Varda played around with all the big dogs too and she deserves our love and attention. I'm absolutely stoked for this set and can't wait to have it.

How do you know what the Fellini and Kar-Wai boxers will look like? Or are you just guessing?

I am baffled as well. She is one of the top tier film directors of all-time in my opinion.

They're probably guessing based on the likely number of discs needed for each release.

I'm hoping 2021 gives us a Kurosawa boxset or a Kobayashi boxset. Now those would be boxsets that would put me over the moon.

Probably. How many, how long they've had the licenses, and how long it'll take them to get the things released are other good questions.

And, given that they've had a good relationship with Disney in the past, I would venture to say that they probably have a better chance of acquiring new licenses for Fox titles under the Mouse than other boutique labels.
