Not until rural areas get better internet speeds it isn't. Also, while I admire what Criterion is doing with the Channel, nothing still replaces owning a physical disc for me and part of the fun for me is blind buys, so buying blind without seeing a film is half the fun for me. Plus, generally I have a good idea of what I like and its not like I go in completely blind as I usually seek trailers and peer reviews for films I haven't seen. Then with the others I will catch them on TCM before buying them. Not to mention, DVD is still kicking all these years past, so while physical media collectors may become a smaller niche, streaming is never going to totally replace it especially with the boutique labels even if the larger studios move stuff to streaming.

I saw a screening of Jesse James, and Mr. Deakins did a really nice Q&A afterwords. Someone asked what his favorite color was, and many folks had to do a facepalm. He graciously and politely gave a non-answer. Quite a gentleman.

I went nuts with the Cohen sale last Nov and with some patience I think I ended up getting all the Chabrol items plus a ton of others that had never gotten a real sale in years. Anyone who can be held up in the same breath as Hitchcock had to be worth a deeper look. Nightcap turned into a favorite quickly

Such a stupid question, everyone knows they all love orange and teal.

That's going to be the whole episode; Lee Kline will be dressed head to toe in teal, just to f with the haters.

[QUOTE=NeoNical;17728514]I know the flash sale for this year probably won't happen until later this year but when the flash sale goes on. I want to know a few titles that have little to no supplements in there that cost the usual $40. Examples like: Rififi, Sword of Doom, and The Magician./QUOTE]

Why not the 50% Off Criterion B&N Sale?

I worked at a Borders before as a bookseller. I wasn’t insulting anyone. When you call they are most likely not working in the movie department so they don’t stock or have any idea about the product or upcoming sales because they don’t work with that merchandise.

So with Nashville now streaming in 4K on Vudu is it possible Criterion could release this in physical form at some point?

Why give a non-answer? Do you think he felt he was wading into treacherous waters, expressing support for one colour over others? Such a divisive topic in these times!
(It was a stupid question, though!)

I would rather they upgrade their DVD titles to blu ray before they upgrade existing blu rays to UHD.

You know, the Downtown Baltimore B&N store had a wonderfully curated film section the past few years, but I rarely if ever spoke to the person in charge of ordering. But I was told she is a film fan and so made sure everything was available in store for purchase. I found a nice selection of Arrow video beside the generous section of Criterion. And dozens of other boutique label blurays scattered throughout the store. So many films I wanted and in my favorite chain store, that was a great feeling. I'm not sure how it will be post-lockdown.

But I'm happy to say that all of the Baltimore-area Barnes and Noble stores are open! Reduced hours, but maybe they'll get back to later hours later in the summer, fingers crossed.

That said, I'm still holding onto hope that B&N will last minute throw out the 50% off sale for CC, because at this point a lot of customers and fans expect this. And this would be perfect for reigniting in-store purchases in a dept. I'm sure needs some fanned flames... I fully expect to see the sale or something very much like it in stores next month.

My girlfriend and I were at that same screening! Andrew Dominik was there too!

Cool! I couldn't remember if he was. Looking forward to his Marilyn movie.

Too bad Amazon is buying The Egyptian.

Yes! Quite often actually. During the last sale I had some great conversations with others that were browsing at the same time. It's fun swapping suggestions. Best of all, the manager at my local Barnes and Noble is a huge Criterion fan. We always share what we've picked up, favorites etc. During sales he's even carried out the boxes in the back for me to go through before they're shelved. The in store shopping experience is the best. I'm really hoping for a sale this July, but I have noted the posts saying it might not happen. Fingers crossed.

I'm so happy that we have labels like Criterion bringing us wonderful titles in the kind of quality they deserve and they have such diversity. I just wish I didn't have to wait around for sales to buy them, as currently I only pre-order titles I really like.

I don't know what Criterion is going to pull this time. All that I hope for is that they upgrade some of the titles that I have mentioned on my top 10 wanted DVDs to Blu-ray upgrade that I did 2-3 days ago. I just hope there are going to be titles that I know and not random titles that I don't know at all or else it'll end up being another month of boredom and no hype until the next announcement.

They could still amaze you/me with unheard titles that might blow your mind. In a way it's a bit boring to just want upgrades of their dvds you own already no?
Does anyone know if they have some sort of plan in how many Blu-Ray releases they issue as upgrades of CC titles vs brand new CC titles?

But no one's saying they only want upgrades... Nical said he wants some - I think most Criterion collectors would like at least a few of their still DVD-only releases to finally be available on Blu-ray.

Its pretty much just at random, they said sometimes its caused by whats available to them for HD masters at the time. Some times they wait to release something when a new restoration is being prepped instead of taking whats available.
