the library where I work, they don't carry blu rays for the most part. Sometimes if its only available in a dual format, you will see a blu ray/dvd on the shelf, but they will label it 2 dvd's since they don't have a blu ray function in the catalogue

The other library close by gets combo packs of blu and dvd, which they seperate and check the dvd out separate from the blu ray.

I'm going to go ahead and blind guess this one but I'm sure most of these shorts are available on Criterion DVD so you can always watch it from there if you need to. And there is an interview with Polanski on the DVD also. So, it seems like it won't bringing much other than the, "multiple" interviews so I guess it's a minor improvements. The stills and production galleries aren't really worth an extra point on difference. But, glad that it has a Blu-ray release nonetheless, despite Polanski being a horrible person. I hope that Chinatown comes to 4K some day

I love libraries. My library has a lot of OOP Criterion DVDs there so I can always watch them without worrying. Last Year at Marienbad? Check. The Third Man? Check. Chungking Express? Check. Seventh Seal 1999 Edition that doesn't really matter? Check. Le Cercle Rouge? Also check. The Grand Illusion? Check it is. Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie. Checked. Contempt? Check. Playtime? Checka. The Confession and Z? Double Check. Original Seven Samurai? Maybe, haven't checked it for about 7 years or so. My first foreign film btw. The Man Who Fell to Earth, Howard's End, Milky Way, Leon Morin Priest, Pierrot Le Fou, Peeping Tom, The White Sheik, Trafic, Le Trou, and many others are not there however.

Just to make those who are jealous a little better, all of these are DVD so some of them aren't worth much.
And LYaM I believe is using a different DVD case and a paper printed version of the Criterion cover I believe (Last checked a few months ago). Still, I'm glad that I have a library that has a bunch of gold mines in there. The library is responsible for me finding most of my favorite films out there. There was also a bootleg copy of the Killer (1989) using the Criterion cover but replacing the logo with a different company title and a completely different back cover. The back cover constantly switches back between Japanese and Chinese so it was hard to read lol. And there was an interesting still that I found in that back cover that I have never seen in the film before that makes me all the more curious and in love with a bootleg copy. Surprisingly enough, it was the best copy of The Killer I have seen to date.
Very sorry, just wanted to show off my public library's beautiful collection

The best are going tbough the donations that we dont have in the system
Some of the films people donate and think we can put on our shelf or we have in our system. To give you an example a dvd release of cannibal holocaust. Sorry if its off topic in this thread but when i saw it i said wtf. It was with a few other italian cannbial horror dvds lol
Im like these cant go in the systen nor would we have them which was the correct assumption.

Very Nice!

My city's library system is pretty amazing as well. They would usually get most if not all of the new Criterion releases every month, often both on Blu-ray and DVD while keeping the booklets inside the cases as well. They even carry the Zatoichi box-set which you check out all at once. Because of their amazing selection I have rarely ever needed to blind-buy a Criterion title. I own about 125 Criterion titles and the number of blind buys I can count with two hand.

I am not sure if your library system has access to Kanopy, but strangely enough it looks like Cannibal Holocaust is on there.

I'm wonder whether separating them is legal or not. Either way, if that's what libraries are doing - they don't do that in my county in NY - then that alone might be why Criterion stopped using the dual formats. It would have cut their sales to libraries by up to 50%.

If you mean because the DVD/Blu combo experiment failed is the reason for the pamphlets afterwards, then yes, I suspect that is the reason. Like everyone else I can only guess, but I'm thinking Criterion saves money in bulk shipping to stores if they can keep the weight of their product down. For physical media like this it doesn't seem like it would amount to much, but if shipping both formats (DVD and Blu's) the pamphlets clearly helps reduce that weight. Had the DVD/Blu combo experiment been a success I think perhaps we would be getting more booklets with each release for sure? (Although the one dual that I own, Hearts & Minds, is noticeably heavier than I remember)

When Criterion attempted the "sticky hub" version of All About Eve I thought for sure they would gradually release all future titles this way, as the cardboard packaging made it feel light as a feather.

Anyone interested in Come and See in two weeks? I see it has an interview with Deakins and the restoration is supposed to be superb. They showed it at the Film Forum in Greenwich Village in February. WWII has always fascinated me but it would be different seeing it from a Russian filmmaker's perspective. Spielberg screened it before making Schindler's List and Saving Private Ryan. Supposed to be a really powerful anti-war movie.

I thought it was the high cost of staples.

Glad you enjoyed it. Luckily, I watched the restoration of it a few weeks ago and it was wonderful. It's available on the Criterion Channel if you want to check it out. Maybe it's not the most saturated or most colorful film from the start but the details seen (Even though it's a digital streaming version of it) is superb. Great film, maybe not the one I would want to rewatch anytime soon

That cover made me laugh a little. A very hilarious looking drawing and probably not the best choice of style to represent the film. Not good cover but very funny to look at big lips Henry Fonda

I have an OOP library of Criterion titles too, except they're all on blu-ray (except for a few titles). About 6 or 7 years ago I went on a shopping binge of buying OOP Criterion blu-rays and even paid $125 for The Third Man in new condition (with the replacement case on top of that). I found an OOP blu-ray of Le Cercle Rouge in a local Barnes & Noble store to my disbelief and hid it behind a shelf so I could come back and purchase it when I had more funds. Now that release is selling for $215+ on Amazon. I ended up buying every single Criterion blu-ray that was OOP back then and the whole fun was tracking them down online or in stores (that I didn't realize were out of print).

Here's my known, current OOP collection (and please don't be jealous):

Army of Shadows (BD - 1st Edition) (OOP): Bought it for $16 at B&N, sale
Chungking Express (BD) (OOP): Bought it for $16 at B&N, sale
The Confession (BD) (OOP): Bought it for $18 at B&N, sale
Howards End (BD) (OOP): Bought it for $16 at B&N, sale
Last Year at Marienbad (BD) (OOP): Bought it for $32 at B&N, non-sale
Le Cercle Rouge (BD) (OOP): Bought it for $36 at B&N, non-sale
Léon Morin, Priest (BD) (OOP): Bought it for $20 at Amazon, sale
Mafioso (DVD) (OOP): Bought it for $25 at DVDEmpire.com, non-sale
The Man Who Fell to Earth (DVD) (OOP): Bought it for $13 at B&N, sale
The Man Who Fell to Earth (BD) (OOP): Bought it for $60 at a local media store, non-sale
The Milky Way (DVD) (OOP): Bought it for $13 at B&N, sale
Pierrot le Fou (BD) (OOP): Bought it for $20 at Amazon, sale
Playtime (BD - 1st Edition) (OOP): Bought it for $16 at B&N, sale
The Third Man (BD) (OOP): Bought it for $125 at eBAY, non-sale
Trafic (DVD) (OOP): Bought it for $22 at a local media store, non-sale

No. And I've asked in all three stores near me since they reopened last week, and got the same response per my earlier post:

No need to apologize. It seems like nobody really knows whether or not the sale is going on. Even the Barnes and Noble Workers aren't confirming anything. Let's just hope it doesn't get cancelled.

Daaamnnn. I don't have enough dedication to pay a lot for an OOP collection. I joined about 2 years ago around the same time I came around to Blu-ray.com so I have nothing special. However, I found out that my grandma had an OOP copy of the Flamenco Trilogy from Eclipse Set. One of the most unexpected things I have ever seen! I'm glad you got all these films and there are definitely some films I wish I would've bought if I was into Blu-rays years ago. Luckily, most of these films have wonderful alternatives so I can always buy them. I'm sure Criterion fans would call you a legend to have all of those OOP gems that not much people would have dedication to pay $125 for a Blu-ray even when there's a better alternative for it.
