Amarcord, The Naked Kiss, Shock Corridor, Army of Shadows, Robinson Crusoe on Mars, Still Walking, Sweet Smell of Success, and Senso. That's enough cartoon covers for a year.
Get the movies if you want. Criterion is an independent label working their asses off to please us, the every so demanding film nerds. They are willing to create something original for their covers that separates them from ever other studio out there and I commend them for every single one, even if it's not my favourite cover ever. Please just shut up.

I think the only reasons I sat through Veronique were the cinematography and Irene Jacob. So gorgeous.

Chill out man, many of us have differing opinions on the Criterion Covers, especially on announcement day, which is usually the first time we get to see them.

You shut up (I doubt that is what you really said). This is a forum that complains about cardboard. You also don't need to explain to me WTF Criterion is. Don't single out me and stop having Beta edit your posts. Everybody complains about the cover art. Even the "smarter than you" CriterionForum people, that btw says Senso looks like crap.

BTW, I can post whatever I please in this Tim Curry gif forum, as long as it doesn't hurt other people. I have an opinion on something I see. Don't act like I'm new here buddy. Senso is a great movie and the cover art sucks. Have any opinions on the Tim Curry gifs or just start crap with me?

Also to add, your "Criterion is an independent label working their asses off to please us" is funny. I give them every last cent of my money as I'm sure alot of other people do. We bust our a**es off at jobs we don't like, so we support them with $, and they can have a fun job. A dream job. Plus they didn't even make this cover art, they paid someone to. Next time you single me out, when there has been 2 years of complaining about crap on this forum, don't come with the "Criterion busts their a**es off for us" when we bust our a**es off to give them money and keep working on movies as their JOB.

I try to not be overacting on people as I do movies here, but your attack on me for saying the Senso artwork is not good IMO, pushed me over the edge, when I see people crying over cardboard.

Well put man! I'm not going to lie, I think subconsciously I sometimes pick fights on here because I know that both sides will be worthy. It doesn't bother me that much that people complain, especially since, like you said, we all bust our asses to give Criterion money. Anyway, hope I didn't ruin your day. Thanks for a good confrontation.

I understand where your coming from with the complaining as I do it with the people crying over digipaks.

I just see the cover art thing as this:

1. They won't change it anyways if I and people over at another forum complains. Because they know we like the movie, so we will buy it anyways. They only care for us as much as we spend.

2. It's venting for a film that the cover art really puts down.

But like I said, when I get into "fights" on here, I don't want them personal. So at the end, we don't "hate" each other or something. So everything is cool with me, I just didn't know why my post got singled out when every month someone does it.

Here are the Cforum's opinions on Senso's artwork:

Senso is but one photoshop filter away from swimminghorses

Senso looks a little like Black Orpheus Redux and its fonts look cheap, which doesn't exactly communicate the class and opulence of the film.

The typography on Senso is hideous. Is it going to be embossed in a nice gold ink for an added bling effect too?

The funny thing about Senso is that, with the sticker placed where it is, it looks like he's holding up a big blue balloon. Maybe it's a Valli tie-in to the balloon salesman in The Third Man.

That Senso cover is indeed hideous. 2011 already has its Fanfan La Tulipe

My biggest problem with Senso is that for a film filmed with masterful compositions they use a cover with MSPaint-style confetti swirling around.

Senso makes no senso.

I think I saw that Senso cover is the paint-by-numbers section at the Hobby Lobby.

Senso was released looking like that to distract us from Modern Times' release tomorrow.

And my fav (which I take it is to look like a hip-hop album):

Best part of my day thus far. It is an awful cover. I have no problem with the other covers, they all are done well, but you are right, I didn't really notice the huge amount of drawn/cartoon covers recently....

I'm pretty set on getting Fish Tank, but I've never heard or seen the others ones, but I'm sure I'll get one or two of 'em when they're released.

Alex Cox's SID & NANCY (1986) (re-issue it on Blu-ray!)
Robert Altman's IMAGES (1972)
Robert Altman's HEALTH (1980)
Robert Altman's COME BACK TO THE FIVE AND DIME, JIMMY DEAN, JIMMY DEAN (1983)
Pedro Almodovar's LIVE FLESH (1997)
David Mamet's THE SPANISH PRISONER (1997)
and others...
