Many of the newer stores are not carrying movies and music I don’t think. I’m lucky to have 3 that do, but 2 new ones in my area opened in the past couple of years have books and a bar with draft beer and food menu but no movies...

The wider color gamut captures much better contrast than Blu-ray's limited color space. I believe if most black and white movies looked that good, fewer people would have such an aversion to them.
People with an aversion to black and white movies are not to be trusted under any circumstances.

Agreed! (Although I'm relieved you didn't say the same about silent movies, which I do struggle with...).

The one closest to me has been there since at least the late-90s. I moved here in 1999 and first went to it in 2000 or 2001. (Borders was closer, and did have a large movie/music section, so I would go there more frequently.) But I don't recall this location having a dedicated section for movies and music even back then. I wonder if some have gotten rid of their sections based on low sales.

People's aversion to black and white films has to do with getting too comfortable with modern aesthetics. Black and white is so foreign it will turn the average person off. The same can be said if all you watch are black and white films, you will probably be turned off by modern aesthetics.

If you watch a mix of both you will come to appreciate both for what they are.

Yeah, I imagine that would be pretty disorienting.

The other two stores have a decent selection; if I can't get the titles I'm after between the three, I'll order for in-store pickup.
Do you have a membership? If so, do you save the extra 20% with the in store pickup option? In my experience, if I pay in store during a sale, I get the extra 20%. But online I don’t.

Cancelled my membership a couple of years ago for various reasons. I still buy a few titles in-store each sale, but tend to focus on the Criterion Flash Sale events.

Members get 10% in-store, but not online. I never ordered online for in-store pick-up so not sure if the member discount is honored, but ordering in-store I did get the 10%.

I have a soft spot for the Empire soundtrack. In the pre-VHS days I would listen to it endlessly and play the movie in my head. And of course there's the Imperial March.

So this is 40% off of 40 dollars SRP? Not much of a deal. You could say they only have a SRP of $40 so they can charge a normal regular price of $30 normally, looking like they're giving you a deal, and then charge $20 and call it "50% off"

In the past it's been 50% off of SRP. I would assume it would be the same this time.

I was very saddened a couple months ago to hear that my favorite B&N closed permanently. They had a HUGE Criterion section (almost an entire wall). I would go there often, since it was an easy walk from work at lunchtime (back in the days I worked onsite). I was always afraid they'd close down their A/V section, but never dreamed the entire store would go. The next closest store has never had A/V media at all, so I have to go several miles further to get a decent B&N. This sale will be my first time in one of their stores in 4 months. Wow...

This is an unusual year, so I expect it to be announced minutes after it ends.
