since novamedia is releasing a 4k wong kar wai set I think criterions blu ray set will depend when the 4k set gets released,

Sounds like a betting game to me so I'm going to bet on Wong Kar-Wai for the last boxset of 2020

I know that we already had prior knowledge of the Parasite release, but I still think it's great since it's only the 3rd Korean film to join the collection. I would be happy if this lead to more interest in releasing Korean films. I think a lot of the bigger titles from Park Chan-wook, Lee Chang-Ddng, and Hong Sang-Soo are largely accounted for by other labels already. But it would be great to get some Kim Ki-duk, Jang Sun-woo, Im Kwon-taek, or more Kim Ki-young.

Speaking of the sticky cardboard mailers all my orders have been delivered in those so far with this sale only today when I inspected Midnight Cowboy there were distinct brown stains/drops on the shrinkwrap here's a pic:

is this residue from the adhesive inside the mailer? I threw it out much earlier when I realized this may be the case or just some unfortunate other kind of stain? either way I got a replacement coming and will be sending this back

It already does have a really good Blu-ray though—that’s why I wouldn’t expect it. I don’t think Magnolia has licensed their films to boutique labels

Anyone have any experience with B&N online orders sitting for a while before shipping? They charged my card, and my order says "preparing shipment" for the last three days

It's been a couple of years since I made a B&N sale order, excited now

Hmm, I have an unopened copy of the old Pierrot Le Fou that I purchased new off Amazon for $34 back in 2011. (I think it was already OOP by this time.)

It looks like everybody is already putting their copies up on eBay, though. It looks like it's only going for about $65 or so. I guess I may just hold onto my old copy. I also prefer the old art.

Also, here are some of my random Criterion wish-list Blus, these are like my top five (or six):
- Bringing Up Baby (1938)
- Angels With Dirty Faces (1938)
- Top Hat (1935)
- Pickup On South Street (1953)
- Drunken Angel (1948)
- Blast of Silence (1961)

There are some other pretty big ones I could think of, too (Trouble in Paradise, Lost Weekend, Adam's Rib, Roman Holiday, Gunga Din... maybe not all Criterion fare). But I just can't believe some of these films have never been upgraded to hi-def after all this time.

The Lost Weekend is coming from Kino Lorber, supposedly in the fall.

I had a bad experience during the last B&N Criterion sale.
I had ordered 5 titles, received shipping confirmation but noticed that my package hadn't moved for more than a week and tracking showed it was still in the UPS warehouse on hold, waiting for confirmation.
I then received notice that the package was being returned to sender (B&N).
I called UPS and they said that without an international shipping label the package was being returned.
Called B&N and explained the situation, they said that when they receive the return it would go back in their inventory and suggested that I reorder. They would refund the original order.
Problem was, the sale was over and B&N would not honor the original discounted sale price on any of my items.

Pierrot le fou is one of the handful of Criterion titles from 2010 that had severe bronzing problems because of a lack of QC at a particular replicator. My copy didn't have any issues when I checked it a few years back, but a lot of people did have problems with it. So, if yours is still sealed and therefore unwatched, it might well be unplayable.

Just got lucky, or perhaps because I only ordered a single title, but It Happened One Night is happening to my house.

I ordered 4 titles, I suppose we got lucky. Most likely explanation is they intentionally cancelled and honored some to not get rekt by Amazon.

If anything, we're getting too many upgrades and not enough new entries.

I'm wondering if the upgrade focus right now is easier since they don't always produce new supplements for those?

I'm also wondering if various Janus titles that were planned for release are being held back a little because they could not play them in theaters as might have been planned. For example, the WKW set which was supposed to play in NYC in June (though a Fellini series was going to be playing the MOMA in December, and that would have overlapped with the box set if the New Year's Clue was any indication).

TONI was set for a theater release in May in NYC, but perhaps that disc was already done and dusted for the August release.

This post is based on absolutely nothing but random musing.

Just upgrade Trouble In Paradise with the new restoration and I’ll never ask them for anything again
