Is there a listing on the Criterion site of Fox and MGM titles released on BD as part of the 'Collection'? Somewhere on this forum was a page on the site which listed titles licensed from MGM but I can't find that link again nor can I find a way to do the same for Fox.

I haven't heard anything, but that could be the reason why it never got a US release on Blu-ray which always felt rather odd since it was a huge hit.

For the first time in the last five or so years that I've been attending these sales, my local B&N has their the Criterion section nearly picked cleaned. Don't know if the pandemic might have anything to do with it, but I'm a bit surprised. Normally when I'd walk in I would find all my 'must have' titles, but this year is different. The cashier who was attending me told that this has been a pretty successful sale compared to past ones. I've made two trips so far and plan on making a last one.

I had the same problem. What I wanted was a light haul (El Sur and Cranes are flying) and as far as I can tell those movies weren't exactly in high demand so I didn't figure there would be a problem. It does have to do with the Pandemic and shipping, for the record. I was told to be patient and just wait until they're available. And they were after about a week.

If it makes you feel better I would order them online and pick them up at the store so the momentum of going to B&B is still there. Or ask to reserve them for you (if you could do that)

When did B&N start doing ship to store? I don't see that option, it's one of my major gripes about them.

It's slightly different when a "remake" is simply a new adaptation of a story from another medium. A better example would be Huston's The Maltese Falcon, which was the third adaptation of the Hammett novel (all of them from Warner Bros, to boot!) within a 10 year period. Hardly anyone even knows there were previous versions.

If one was going to call The Force Awakens a remake of A New Hope, one could also call Superman Returns a remake of Superman: The Movie. I can understand the temptation, as in each case, the newer film repeats a lot of the same narrative beats as its predecessor, but neither one is really a remake in the strictest sense. Quite frankly, I would put more stock in the idea of calling Independence Day a remake of The War of the Worlds -- down to the aliens being done in by a "virus" -- but even then, it would be more snark than serious consideration, because again, it's more a repetition of the same narrative beats.

I'm planning on going back in two weeks and see what's new. I did place an order for ship-to-home on three titles I was looking forward to.

I thought about that, but I believe the 10% member discount doesn't apply since its not an in-store purchase.

They don't that I'm aware of -- or not exactly in the sense of a Walmart ship-to-store.

You can call them and ask them to bring most items into the store for you to pick up, but the price will be the instore price at the time of pickup and only if the item is considered a store product. Many items like Warner Archives can't be brought to the store at all and many of the big expensive boxsets are Prepaid ShiptoHome only

You can order online for an ISPU which is more like a Best Buy ISPU -- online price, no member discount, pay at time of order, but that's only to pick up something already is stock at your store.

You can order via in-store computer (or often over the phone) for most things to be a shiptohome item -- instore price, in the past it's automatically included Member discount and in-store coupon possibly. I guess it's the opposite of a ship to store and i've never been 100% clear on shipping costs for non-members and under $35 orders -- sometimes it seems to get FS, other times it doesn't

Correct though there is a different method for things that are in-stock or able to be ordered to be brought into the store for you to pickup.
Plus with an online ISPU, you have the option to do a return/rebuy or ask the manager to apply the member discount when you pick up the item in lieu of doing it the hard way -- some will, some won't

Am I the only one with constant issues logging in the B&N website? I swear every time I want to log it it says my password has expired due to inactivity. Apart from "what inactivity are they talking about??" even those times I manage to reset the password, the same thing happens the next time I want to log in.
Also I just managed to reset the password, and yet when I try to log in.... it says the same bloody thing. I mean, could their website be any worse? In addition, I think I already created a second account a couple of years ago, so I have no idea where most of my orders are, and I'm tempted to just create a third one. When I think of amazon being awful...

I just read the review for Come and See...looks like a film that I will enjoy. Not too many Russian movies in the collection but I have enjoyed all the blind purchases so far.

I'll pass by the store later to buy it.

Yep. No one will ever convince me that John Huston was not a "master" in the medium of filmmaking.

Has anyone viewed their War of the Worlds blu-rays yet? Mine skips about 10 seconds ahead around the 08:30 mark when a character says "we can sell tamales...". Disc condition seems fine to me though.

Man, I usually love Cassavetes but watched Husbands last night and was so bored. Probably my worse blind buy to date. Very unlike able characters and I usually don’t mind that but, man this movie had nothing to offer. I’ve never regretted buying any criterion, even if I didn’t enjoy them as much as others but this is my first regret (as far as criterion purchases go). I’ve been bored by other films definitely but I can see the appeal or by the end can be satisfied with the film as a whole but Husbands just never gave me that. I never thought I’d dislike a Cassavettes film like this. What are some of your worst blind buys?

^^Husbands is very divisive. I actually much prefer it to many of his more acclaimed films, including Faces and TKOACB, but I also understand why many do not like it or remain on the fence.

I actually like Husbands but that restaurant scene is interminable, probably on purpose. I especially love the scene where Ben Gazarra returns to his office. It’s a very stylized scene for a Cassavetes film. I know his wife wanted the throw up scene removed but I assume that’s intact. Apparently, as with a lot of his films, there were numerous different cuts of Husbands.

I was actually coming to ask if anyone else has had this experience. I wasnt able to make it to a B&N until this weekend. Normally I go as soon as it starts. I was so disappointed that it was extremely slim pickings. There was absolutely no new releases and barely anything from my wish list there. I checked online and all the stores nearby are also empty as well. I wish I didn’t renew my membership for the year already. I am worried it might not be worth it. Any chance they restock before the sale ends?
