Francis Ford Coppola - "RUMBLE FISH"
one of the greatest Criterion titles? I think so. Great quality bonus features and picture, better than a great deal of others I feel.

Terrence Malick - "BADLANDS"
had such a great experience acquiring this from the B&N in Orland Park, IL. Last week I talked to a young counter kid in the Music section. (This store actually still has a small little music section, unlike many others). He said he could try and get it transferred from another store that had it. Took my number. The next day, I talked to a manager about the previous encounter. He said the previous kid was mistaken in thinking it wouldn't be a big deal to transfer a Criterion during the sale, and that my best bet would be to Pick Up In Store from another location. Today, I got a call that my copy was shipped over and was on hold. Turns out the first employee succeeded and I got a mint copy of what seems to be one of the rarer Criterions. I thanked them so much and let them know how awesome of a job they are doing.

Anyone finding the Zatoichi set in stock at B&N? Wonder how long before this starts getting reprinted?

yeah, of course during the one time i actually have the money to finally buy Zatoichi i cant find it with 250 miles of me. During the last B&N sale i saw 4 of the sets which were there at the same B&N the sale before that, but now nothing.

Hopefully maybe during the next Sale in November it will be back in stock.

I think im done with this sale, im tempted to buy more but i think ill stop now.
Final Haul; Godzilla boxset, Bruce Lee Boxset, Age of Innocence, Scorsese Shorts, Grand Budapest Hotel.

I don't think it really matters. As a husband and as a father, I have to agree with Dr. Strangelove nearly 100%. I like Cassavettes as a director and actor, but he really needed an editor on this. Apparently this version was cut down from his 4 hours version. Wow. There is literally a bar/dinner scene that just goes on and on and on. It didn't do much for me.

The best part of this release is the special features. The interview on the Dick Cavett show is legendary and ten times more entertaining than the film. It has it's moments, but overall, it falls flat.

I have a 203 cinema and they load in a few seconds. Something is not right with your settings. My older OPPO 83 used to take a minute or so to load, but the 203 loads within seconds.

I watched Husbands about a week ago on the Criterion Channel and while I sort of enjoyed the film, I really do agree with those people who disliked it and the reasons why.

If you haven't seen this, unfortunately it seems there is a chance it won't be reprinted:

IMO "Husbands" is primarily a film about alcoholism. It perfectly recreates what a bender is like, that lingering drunken fecklessness, mixed in with occasional bursts of what seems like fun, which only seems reasonable because you're completely smashed. And there is absolutely nothing at the end of the bender except a feeling of complete emptiness. These guys know this is it for them, it's the crossroads of sobering up or becoming a sad old drunk instead of a young party dude. It's not an easy film to watch, but I think it's one of Cassavetes' most interesting films when viewed through the lens of his alcoholism. It's almost like this film was him saying, "I know I need to quit or it may kill me" and "Love Streams" was his admission that he was never able to kick it. Just my two cents.

Disappointed and surprised Criterion won’t be doing The Passenger. They obviously have a working relationship with Sony/Columbia and they’ve worked with Jack before on his own films and interviewed him For their L’avventura Disc as Antonioni was his favorite filmmaker, so I’m really curious why

My Amazon shipment was "undeliverable" and is now returning to seller.

Even at the inflated P&P + import deposit fees costs, us Europeans seem to be unable to get American Criterion releases. I was looking forward to receiving "Come and See" & the films in the "America Lost and Found" box-set, but that's not going to happen anytime soon... Come and See is now only available from third party sellers and the box-set has gone up in price.

I don't suppose there are alternatives to BN.com and Amazon.com? Criterion.com also only delivers to the US and Canada.

I haven't looked forward to a title like Come and See in years, it really sucks that it's almost impossible to get now!

Well that stinks! I owned this many years ago and somehow got rid of it. I regret it!

I had the Kurosawa box and sold it to a friend for the sale price. I expected to rebuy at the next sale. I never was able to get it again at the normal sale price.
Lesson learned.

I think it's more about men. Men who also happen to drink rather than alcoholism per se,and it's one of the best films on the subject. It's far better than the light and obvious 'woke' takes on masculinity that we tend to encounter today. More authentic and personal, less reductive, rooted firmly in experience rather than theory.

I'm posting this again because I've received no response and I'm trying to get to the bottom of it. Has anyone heard of a "Wild Strawberries" Event on August 1st? My calendar lists it, but I can't figure out why or what it is. Thanks.

I don’t know if Bamboozled is Spike Lee’s best film.

I still think shooting it on digital video was a mistake.

But I can say, definitively, that it’s his most thought-provoking film.

...and probably his smartest.

I feel your pain - I too have been waiting for years for this (I sold my R1 Kino DVD of it years ago, in anticipation) and am frustrated by how difficult it is to get: and to answer your question, there is Wow-HD, as eccentric as an old aunt but usually reliable. Sadly with the imposed VAT it comes out at £30 delivered, an eye watering price for a single disk/title edition.

Come and See on Wow

Almost pulled the trigger on it on Monday but am hesitating at the price and Scandi rumours of a UK release. May wait till the next set of UK titles are announced, I mean leaked, before deciding.

Since it was shot on digital to intentionally get that specific look, I can kind of look past it. The 16mm stuff does look great on the bluray though.
