For someone with a lot of previous Criterion releases, an Orson Welles boxset would be appreciated.

Few of his films are, shall we say, enjoyable, but it is odd that they’re not available on Blu ray. More interesting would be the ones he produced but didn’t direct. The Paul Morrissey/Joe Dallesandro trilogy (1968-1972), BAD, et al. Very strange that those haven’t seen HD releases yet.

If anyone could do it, it would be Criterion. I would settle for an RKO box set with Citizen Kane, The Magnificent Ambersons, Journey Into Fear and It’s All True.

Can we ever expect a standalone release of the 4K restoration of 8 1/2, even perhaps in the UK from a different party? La Dolce Vita will probably use the existing 4K master Criterion's already released, so I'm not as concerned about that one. The other restorations I'll probably be happy to stream on the Criterion Channel for the time being when they make their way on there.

Unless if there's a Godard boxset, Breathless is probably going to stay as the 2010 restoration Criterion used which I think it fine since the restoration itself is still beautiful.

Could be I'm just excited about the set, but I've gone from liking the Essential Fellini cover to loving it. Can't wait to watch those beauties!

With the long COVID summer continuing, I'm upping my cocktail game. What's a good pair for War of the Worlds? A Saturn! (I know....Mars) And I even had a glass that matched Sylvia's necklace.

Other ideas for Criterion/cocktail pairings?

(and how do you get a picture to display?)

Finally upgrading that super old FLESH and BLOOD discs would be nice. The more old discs that are upgraded, the more some of the waaaay old ones stick out.

Perhaps Criterion could still do one, but I feel the reason that they didn't put out a centenary box set for Welles (like with Bergman, Fellini) is because of difficulty in securing rights for the highest profile Welles titles. If WB doesn't license out Citizen Kane and Universal doesn't license out Touch of Evil, then that would sort of defeat the purpose of a Welles set. It'd be one thing if Criterion couldn't get, say, The Stranger, but I think losing those other two would make a comprehensive Welles set a non-starter. But maybe doing a smaller RKO set or a Shakespeare set (Macbeth, Othello, Chimes) might be more feasible with fewer hurdles.

after diving right into the Agnes set, and starting in order from when they were filmed I must say her films are much more watchable then the majority of films in the Bergman set when I tried to do that

even though I saw a film or 2 in each set prior, I still considered it a blind buy due to the amount of films in each set I still hadn't seen before

Hell yeah! Just saw it right now! I think that the old Blu-ray looks great but I can't even imagine in my mind how greater this would be to be honest. You can definitely say that end product will most likely leave me Breathless for sure.

Didn't know I haven't subscribed to StudioCanal's twitter yet. This is the news I needed.

When Criterion says a film is currently unavailable, does that mean it is going out of print. I can't recall a film where this happened and it went back in stock.

Here is my Criterion cocktail pairing: When watching Buena Vista Social Club (top image,)

I will indulge in a Sidecar (bottom image.)

Also, open the windows, raise the volume, and enjoy life!

If it's OOP, they will explicitly say "OUT OF PRINT". If it says "currently unavailable", it means their stock is depleted, and need to have more pressed.

Probably stating the obvious, but these two make an ideal pairing...

La Dolce Vita

Negroni
