I wish Crtiterion would release 'All That Heaven Allows' and 'Written on the Wind' and 'Magnificent Obsession' all starring Rock Hudson. I also wish they would acquire the Rock Hudson/Doris Day trilogy of comedies 'Pillow Talk', 'Send Me No Flowers' and 'Lover Come Back' and release them on Blu-ray since Universal apparently isn't going to get around to it anytime this decade.
How about a Criterion edition of "Giant"? I don't give a rats arse about Mr. Hudson's lifestyle, he was a great actor in films and TV (I used to watch McMillan and Wife back in the day) I'm straight and fan of his work that he left for us to enjoy.

Hello all, new to the forum but I wanted to ask about the packaging on Breathless. I watched the movie for the first time last night and really liked it, and looking on youtube the packaging on the DVD is awesome, I just wanted to see if the blu-ray has the same packaging? Either way I am buying it soon, great, extremely influential movie.

However, with that said, the nearest B&N by me had a DVD copy of "The Complete Metropolis" on its stocking shelf yesterday (but no blu-ray).
That's because the DVD was released yesterday, while the blu-ray is next Tuesday.

My box of Night of the Hunter looks generally amazing but the art seems to be cracking down the spine.

Is this just mine or do yours have it too?

posts like this make me feel not alone in my ocd

to answer your question, mine does not have that cracking down the spine, although it does have a wrinkle on the left side of the front cover.

coincidentally:

for your copy of night of the hunter, at 42:39, do you notice something weird going on with the frame, like something is stretched and then goes back to normal? i don't know if there's a technical term, but it happens when powell raises his head up, just for a frame.

thanks!

^^^---- Did you ask that in this, or another thread???? I think I recall the question, but I'm not sure if it was this, or another film.

I don't have it to check though

So I'm on a business trip to Orlando, and I won't return back home until after the sale is over. I drove to 5 different Barnes N Nobles around the area to get Night of the Hunter and Modern Times. No place had Modern Times, and only one had Night of the Hunter (last place I checked too). I looked online and they said "in stock" for every store, but when I got there, there was nothing.

Oh well, I bought a few dvds that started out at $24.99, so I got them for about $11.50. Was so frustrated I couldn't find Night of the Hunter I had to buy something just to ease my mind.

My Seven Samurai is still in solid shape after watching it and taking it out three times. My Night of the Hunter comes in tomorrow so hopefully that is in good shape too.

[Show spoiler]
Mine was mint conditionbut my spine did have the same issue, it must be the quality stock/ink used.

Question Stupid question.

I feel like a total idiot for asking but what is the library link? I've heard people talking about it but I do not know what it is. I'd also like to get your opinions on some blus I may purchase. They will be blind buys, but I liked the trailers. I can get my money back on ebay if I do not like them. Any other film suggestions you may give me will be much appreciated, I want to pad my collection. I only own The Man Who Fell To Earth and Ride With the Devil. Thanks guys.

Monsoon Wedding
A Christmas Tale
The Leopard

Well I have yet to open mine. I generally won't open them until I'm about to watch them to prevent unnecessary shelf wear.

Hmm. I have refrained from opening it as I still have about 20+ of my Criterion's to actually watch. At least that way if in the future I run into a better looking one I can buy it and return the one that would only bother my OCD mentality.

CC also thinks that Revanche and Straw Dogs should be in the collection, and those are 2 of the best movies I've ever seen. Everything is picked for a reason.

I'm just saying I didn't enjoy it, and I thought it was meh. It's on a very short list of Criterions that I've watched that I didn't overly enjoy (Ratcatcher is also on that list).

EDIT: When I say Revanche and Straw Dogs are the best, I mean they're some of my FAVS. I don't want to start a 6 page discussion on something being the best or something being a fav. We already did that.
