Witness is out on WA but is supposed tobe a crap release, no better than the DVD. Still, better than nothing?

It is probably one of my fave Ford films. Whenever I see it's on tv, my schedule is cleared. Mcgillis is great in it too
There was a Spanish BD of Mosquito Coast but I wouldn’t trust the quality of it. I’d be interested in the German release. Absolutely love this movie. I still watch my old DVD at least once a year.

I apologize if this has been addressed already but are there any known issues with the discs for 12 Angry Men and The Game? I bought my copies years ago when they first released and never had a problem until this month when I tried watching them again. Both of them froze and then jumped forward 20+ minutes. I am unable to go back, restart, etc. The discs are clean and scratch free.

I remember having an issue with disc rot with my old copy of M, so I wasn't sure if these were impacted by some sort of manufacturing error as well.

What sorts of issues was M having? I have M, but the only oddity I notice is there's no sound on the secondary main menu page, meaning when the backdrop for the main menu is Elsie's mother in the kitchen, followed by shots of the stairwell, the attic, the ball, etc. My disc is a BVDL copy, however.

Good luck with that. The Collector's Ed set seems to be going now for a hefty 30$+ price at least on Amz.

It's also owned by Fox, ergo Disney.

M had completely browned on the bottom and no players would accept it.

Have you tried washing the discs with liquid soap (I prefer Dawn) and warm water, and then gently drying them? Whenever I've had a problem with a disc, which is rare, this has always fixed the problem.

It was mostly because of Plummer IMO. What a fantastic and underrated actor. It's a shame he never got the opportunities he truly deserved IMO.

I actually liked Eve's Bayou the least of those three but I don't often line up with a number of films that are highly regarded so it was probably me.
I haven't seen it yet, but I've heard good things. Is it possible that it has been overhyped at this point?

A couple I'd love are two Mario Van Peebles films Baadasssss, a definite, and Panther.
I found Baadasssss at a dollar shop years ago. I've been meaning to watch it with Sweet Sweetback's Badass Song, which I don't own. When the opportunity presents itself, I'll double feature both.

Quote:
Panther was not treated well on home video and I don't recall it being overwhelming well received but, at the least, would inspire some terrific extras and I remember finding the film very worthwhile.

Another that comes to mind for me is Hangin' with the Homeboys (1991). I would say Beloved but I'm not sure if that would qualify (and is Disney owned). I always thought that was very underated.
I've never even heard of these. Will have to look up both.

I agree. It's staggering just how downright cynical the movie is.

I won't be revisiting it, honestly, but I can see why you might want to after buying the screenplay.

(r/Criterion really is the only subreddit I use now but I'm trying to find other sites that talks about films seriously and not collecting stuff even though I am a collector type person myself).
I was going to send you other movie subreddits I'm in, but to be honest, none of them really have great discussion.

Quote:
To sum it up, I hate myself for still making myself post opinions that get downvoted and hated by but still post them, hoping for a fruitful discussion (Even though I may act immature at times). I don't have anyone else to talk about movies with (The area I live in is very quiet and no film lovers around).
Downvoting on Reddit infuriates me, because it's almost always done with no rhyme or reason. Easier said than done, but ignore it.

Quote:
Anyways, it's always a pleasure talking to people about movies even though I don't know anyone personally in this community or on Reddit and I'm glad that wonderful discussions and feelings can sometimes be shared (Not always) and accepted by others. At least my parents still enjoy reading my letters to them about food and books since they have nothing to do. It's always great having someone close by in life!
Blu-ray.com is a great site for discussion IMO, even if this thread can sometimes be laughably buffoonish in its snobbery and a couple of posters in general are a bit too high on themselves (not just in this thread). For the most part though, the folks here are awesome. I hang out mostly in Hot Deals, which is where all the chill people seem to be.

I think it's a great idea. Why not start it?

The upcoming Brute Force and The Naked City are credited to a company called Master Licensing, inc. So I googled it to see what else they have, and

I'm spoilering my next comments because I don't want to ruin the surprise in the link

[Show spoiler]One, I can't wait for the Secret Games trilogy box set.

Two, do you think that Master Licensing picked up Brute Force and The Naked City because they thought they were softcore porn?

Three, I think it is actually the same company that Criterion licensed the DVDs from, they just changed their name.

I'm hoping that Criterion releases the Mirror Images double-pack.

I own the Criterion release of Picnic at Hanging Rock and would love to see a blu-ray upgrade for The Last Wave.

I'd generally like to see more Peter Weir films in the collection too. Does anyone here have any suggestions for Weir movies Criterion could/should add?

Did you all realize that every single film of his on RT is certified "fresh" too? Wow! https://www.rottentomatoes.com/celebrity/peter_weir

By the way, happy belated birthday to Peter Weir (his birthday was on Friday, 2 days after mine!).
I'd love it for Criterion to upgrade The Last Wave to Blu-ray. I have the Region B German Peter Weir Collection which has it (along with The Cars That Ate Paris, The Plumber, and Picnic at Hanging Rock). It looks acceptably good, but they all could look better). Cars and Plumber would make for good Criterion releases -- they were released here on DVD by the Criterion-adjacent Home Vision, so...maybe?

The problem with Criterion releasing any other Weir films is that they most of them have solid BD releases already in the US. The only exceptions are:

Not released on BD in the US:
Gallipoli (which has a decent region-free edition from Australia)
The Year of Living Dangerously
The Mosquito Coast

Warner has the rights to the last two, so they might be possibilities for Criterion.

The Truman Show (Paramount) definitely needs a do-over on BD; Witness looks fine on Paramount's BD, but they failed to port over any of the extras from their DVD edition.

I still need to pick up Kino's BD of Green Card. For no earthly reason I can think of, this is the one Weir film I don't have a copy of of, and have never watched.

The film of his not mentioned above I very much recommend is Fearless, which is on BD from Warner Archive.

Well I stand corrected then

I do stand by however that this needs a proper release, remastered & all the extras from the DVD put on instead of a barebones disc not to mention new features
The PQ can definitely be improved on & I wouldn't tank it as "fine"

Better to get the dvd if you like your extras or both

TBH, not to go to off-topic, but many of their titles sound like perfect fits for Vinegar Syndrome

Fearless is such an underrated film. I feel like this movie should be more well known. Jeff Bridges might have delivered his finest role in that one (though I still think his "Dude" from The Big Lebowski is his greatest character).

I can't decide which Weir movie to watch tonight. My blu-ray of Fearless or my dvd of The Mosquito Coast? I think I'll go with the latter since I'm on a Harrison Ford kick right now.

I held onto Paramount's DVD for the extras, but when I watch it, I've watched the Blu-ray. It's not perfect, but I don't think it's a disaster, either.

Yes! My copy of 12 Angry Men does that too, right when Henry Fonda stabs the knife into the table it glitches up and skips forward. Cant fast forward or rewind it or else it just jumps forward or freezes up.

Any likelihood that Criterion would ever release Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars (The Motion Picture)? I've never picked up a copy of the dvd because even the "remastered" release is nearly 20 years old! I'm not sure about rights, but they've got other D. A. Pennebaker films, so I figure there may be a chance?

I noticed a lot of Fellini movies have been popping up for sale on eBay, no doubt in anticipation of the upcoming set.
