That is true.

I get a kick out of film catalogs that have a few out of place titles, and this one has the two most out of place titles (well four, really, as the two Lustig titles don't fit in either) I think I've seen.

I am unable to go back, restart, etc. The discs are clean and scratch free.

I remember having an issue with disc rot with my old copy of M, so I wasn't sure if these were impacted by some sort of manufacturing error as well.

This is making me worry about my copy of 12 Angry Men (purchased from Barnes and Noble last year or the year before, but who knows how long it had been sitting there).

Do either of you have a timestamp for when this issue occurs?

If necessary, what is the process of acquiring a replacement disc from Criterion?

Watched about 15 minutes of That Hamilton Woman on TCM this morning. The print isn't bad, but definitely could look so much better. Here's hoping, even if I'm the only one who wants it!

The title made it sound like some post-apocalyptic movie where bikers joust while going up and down the inside of a dome in tricked out vehicles.

re: Peter Weir. I've noticed that American and Brit cinephiles often have a bit of a 'thing' for his films.

I'm personally of the belief that his best and most interesting work was made in Australia. His American films, while often good, are too 'respectable', for lack of a better word, for my taste, although Master and Commander is really good and I don't mind The Truman Show.

Agreed! Fearless is a real gem. As far as Jeff's greatest performance I pretty much say that with any film he is in. The guy is a spellbinding actor who doesn't get nearly enough props IMHO.

I sold Criterions of 8½, La Dolce Vita and Satyricon and Eurekas of Roma and Il Bidone last week - the UK disks sold before I got the listing emails and the Criterions both went within the hour! Will pay for about half of the cost of the set. Anyone want some Fellini DVDs

Yes, Jeff Bridges is only in 2 films in the Criterion Collection (The Fisher King and The Last Picture Show), but he needs to be more ubiquitous.

I just got done watching Fearless, and man, that is one intense film about death. I can see how its a "one and done" type of movie for a lot of people, because once you've seen it once, you'll never want/have to see it again (but damn, Rosie Perez is a revelation in that film too).

Yeah it's definitely not an easy film to watch due to the subject matter. Yeah Perez is great in it as well as Tom Hulce (who's another underrated actor).

Criterion is still Releasing fox titles tho, including the upcoming Claudine and Gunfighter which are both fox titles, so Master and Commander isn’t an impossible release

It's generally believed that Criterion acquired those well before the Disney takeover.

So yes, in theory, it's possible if it was a title Criterion adopted a while back, but I wouldn't rely on that.

Why the demand for a Criterion release of Master and Commander anyways? It has a perfectly fine Blu-ray already. Wouldn't them allocating time and resources towards a film that's been marginalized in the home video market be more rewarding?

Yep would much rather have Gallipoli (the Australian blu is decent but not great) or an upgrade of The Last Wave or one of the missing 80s titles.

This! From what I understand Criterion typically licenses their movies well in advance, sometimes even a couple of years before the discs are eventually released. For that reason I feel like we might see a few more FOX titles, but I doubt they will be getting anything "new" from them for some time.
