Likely November as usual and since Criterion's slate for that month is packed with heavy hitters they would prob wanna sell as much as possible.

I think it's safe to say the flash sale will happen soon after Pierrot le Fou's oct. 6th release because that will prob sell well.

For fans of Anna’s work, in general: what other films do you feel are essential entrants in her filmography? These need not be limited to works on blu-Ray. If I’m unable to get a physical copy, I’ll stream it. I’d like to explore more of her career, and while I could simply look up a list of her best films, I’d like to put together a set that specifically demonstrates her versatility. Vivre sa vie was my introduction to her, and I’ll be picking up Pierrot le fou during the sale.
Definitely Band of Outsiders, I dont remember much of Le Petit Soldat but BoO is classic Karina/Godard.

Dont get your hopes up, Paul Morrisey is very stingey with those two movies and on top of that he is also in very poor health to really do anything/get in contact with.

Band of Outsiders and just like the other person who replied to your question, I didn't really like Le Petit Soldat either. Not that it's a bad film but it's just not that special. However, I think A Woman is a Woman and Pierrot Le Fou are Karina's best with Godard. She also did spectacular in Jacques Rivette's The Nun which isn't entertaining as the Godard films but it showcases Karina's serious side which she did wonderful with. Way better than I expected.

Oh that sucks. Guess I'll have to find the rare copies like finding a powerful human for my, "experiments."

Both movies? One man? He mast be vewy powaful!
I love these two movies so much Such a shame Morrisey isn't interested in releasing these films on Blu-ray

Thank you both. I’ll definitely get Band of Outsiders, and look into The Nun. I see Kino has released it here, and StudioCanal in the UK. I’ll check DVD Beaver to see if the two issues are compared.

As I said before, I would request Bresson's The Trial of Joan of Arc as a Criterion release. It has a French release from last year albeit not English friendly. I would buy it Day 1 if Criterion were to announce it.

Jane Wyman and Rock Hudson were quite good together in both films. I've got Imitation of Life slated as one of my movies to watch this week.

1984 is another I would like to add immediately. I have the OOP Twilight Time, but the Criterion is loaded with extras, including an interview with Roger Deakins. That is a big selling point, to me.

I still have not seen any Bresson, I'm ashamed to admit. And I own Au hasard Balthazar. I've been so caught up working on my DVR recordings that I've neglected my blu-rays.
I also have the TT release of 1984, which means I keep delaying picking up the Criterion in favour of another title. But the interview with Deakins is a big draw.

I've also not seen any Bresson. I'm starting with A Man Escaped as the subject matter appeals to me. I've held off watching Au hasard Balthazar based on the central theme, as I am quite sensitive to animal suffering. But I need to read up on it more.

Sadly, I'm not so sure Truffaut has the same prestige he once held. In the 70's when I was a teenager he was consistently ranked as one of the Top 10 directors of all time, but like Wyler, you just don't see a lot of critical or popular attention being paid to him anymore.

I can remember the widely heralded back to back releases of DAY FOR NIGHT and THE STORY OF ADELE H, but the tide began to turn somewhat with the release of SMALL CHANGE in 1976. I recall some critics snubbing him a bit and claimed he had "gone soft." He made great films after that, of course, but in cinephile circles he didn't seem to be acknowledged or appreciated as much in the decades that followed. The fact that he was always considered the most "commercial" of the New Wave directors caused some to dismiss him, as happens with elitist thinking.

CRITERION isn't always concerned with such revisionist assessments of filmmakers, but I still don't know if they would gamble on a box set. I myself would love to see THE GREEN ROOM on Blu, which I felt was one of his most underrated titles.

Criterion named their softball team after Trufffaut (The True Foes) and have spoken about how important his films are to Janus and Criterion, but you are correct in that he doesn't seem to be in the cultural conversation anymore.

Is it just me, or does Criterion.com clear out your shopping cart every day? I want to have my order ready for the flash sale, but the cart keeps clearing out the next day!

Most other etailers keep items in the cart until you remove them.

Do others experience the same thing?

Does this for me, too. Also, after the awful redesign, the Wish List is no longer chronological, and adding one title affects the position of other titles on the list.

The same thing happens to me on both Criterion and Kino's sites.

Vinegar Syndrome doesn't clear out the shopping cart everyday, but they do it on the eve of their sales, which is annoying. One year I spent hours the day before the Black Friday sale researching what I wanted, filling my cart as I went, then woke up the next morning to an empty cart. At least now I know and just jot them down on paper- like a savage!

I’d like them to get back Diary of a Country Priest. It and Joan are probably my two favorite Bresson films.

My response to this would be that’s more an indictment of today’s moviegoing public than any lowering of esteem held for Truffaut’s work by those who have an appreciation for real artistry.

Back 20 years ago, I felt that it was like that for Truffaut. Especially for CC. A bigger name, if you will.

But I think the internet has, in a positive form, locked him more to the side based on how much more exposure we have to the rest of the world in the history of film.
