3 years of code maturity and encoder optimisation later, they can achieve high quality 4k at ..... 20Mbps? I will listen to their claims when they do some independent encoder tests and comparisons. |

You want evidence like this…https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...ce#post6678037 from comparative scientific testing rather than testimonials on a demo. I’m not so sure that “they” can, or will, do some independent encoder tests and comparisons. I think you’ll need an independent 3rd party to do something like that. Also, since REDRAY will be first out of the gate for 4K content home delivery, I don’t know if there is even much motivation for them to do so. I suspect the most you can hope for initially would be a ‘White Paper’ issued by the Red folks. |

![]() But I’m thankful for all I have ![]() ![]() As to your question, I’m not a specific timeline forecaster type of guy. That’s for people far smarter than me who can analyze a multitude of variables (which no 1 entity has control over) and issue a confident prediction. My brain is just too little ![]() I‘m more confident in predicting that when 4K does arrive at your price point and you are conflicted while watching the imagery of some future 4K remaster of an older film, that the issuance of a boilerplate damage control statement like this (last paragraph) has an excellent chance of happening yet again, after your $5,000. install… https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...ed#post6560369 Curtain call. ![]() Sometimes reality is worse than the rumors. |

But if you desire some direction as to what brand I think will take a leadership role in challenging your $5,000. price point, I would follow Toshiba closely….

You haven’t heard?
Absenteeism color correction is the most innovative method to the pathway of convenience…. Studio executive to Director of Photography: ‘Dude, just send me the notes as to darker, brighter, bluer…whatever, as I’ve got another call waiting on extension 2, and my people will use their best judgment.’ Director of Photography: OK ...switching extensions... Studio executive to Administrative Assistant: ‘Nancy, please come in here and find my official DP-approved stamp from Office Max. We’ve done our due diligence on this one. It’s not like we’re dealing with some multi-Academy Award winning motion picture here.’ |

If I get some time, I’ll provide a collaborative reference to my remarks since this inequity has long been a topic of concern and frustration among DP’s and it applies to both 4K and 2K movie releases, irrespective of the rez. |
