There's been a lot of films over the years that have sparked an emotional response from me for various reasons, but I think the one that got to me the most was Saving Private Ryan.

[Show spoiler]I've done a lot of meditating on this, and came to the conclusion that the reason that scene breaks us all, despise knowing Disney would never go through with it, is because that scene is really the natural conclusion to the Toys (and in a larger viewpoint, everybody's) story.

We will all outlive our usefulness and head towards that demise, sometimes literally with cremation. It also still works as a heaven (the bright light from above, the claaaaw) or hell (incinerator) metaphor.

My quote from another thread...with Toy Story 4 spoilers included.

All that is left is the sad realisation that he no longer has purpose, and will eventually rot, wither and die. The nursery is presented as a care home (and then eventually becomes a prison break movie) but nowhere in the film is the mortality more present than the toys making their final bleak descent into the fiery pits of hell, only to be rescued by the bright light from above ("THE CLAAAW").

The issue with all of this is that the fiery pit (death) is, for all intents and purposes, the real end of the mortality story. Passing the toys on to Bonnie is a lovely happy ending, and kind of works as a "there's still grandkids to look forward to" metaphor, but ultimately the toys are just back on the same track to worthlessness.

Woody has spent 3 movies trying to stop either himself or his friends from being "lost toys" and obviously lost the love of his life in the third movie. The only real "happy" ending Woody could ever have, and should ever have, is finding Bo Peep again and embracing being "lost" together, to now live a life free of the responsibility of being a parent to anyone.

I find Toy Story 4 works better as an epilogue or coda to the trilogy. It really should've been called "Woody" or "Woody & Bo" or something other than "Toy Story 4."

The reason it gets to me is
[Show spoiler]even though we, the audience, know Disney would never kill off the toys, the toys don't know that. The looks on their faces as they realize their time has come...

Just typing that has made me a little misty. I'm gonna go hug my dogs.

Toy Story 2 was the franchise’s climax for emotion with Jessie’s backstory, IMO. Though the actual conclusion to 3 was extremely moving as well. I didn’t feel the gut punch from the incinerator scene, it was impossible to take the threat seriously.

What Dreams May Come

The film already wrecked me, now following the suicide of Robin Williams, it carries an additional sad irony. I'd pounce on a 4K HDR release for the outstanding colors and Oscar-winning visuals, but I fear it's going to be a long time before we see that happen.

"Doctor Zhivago"... Every girl I dated made me take her to see it. I sat through it so many times it made me feel like I was part of the movie. Made me feel like crying.

I'm a wimp. I'll share these, but, believe me, people would probably laugh at some of the other films I cry at!!

Cinema Paradiso [DC more than the TC]
Somewhere In Time
The Fountain
The Elephant Man
Edward Scissorhands
The Ghost and Mrs Muir
Fire Walk With Me
The Umbrellas of Cherbourg
The Notebook
Carousel
Hachi: A Dog's Tale [that one got to me so much I still haven't seen it since the cinema!]

And for some reason I shed tears at the end of Con Air, but they're tears of joy. Maybe it's cheesy, but it sure works for me.

Off the top of my head...

Boyz n the Hood
Steel Magnolias
Ghost
Schindler's List
A Dog's Purpose
Marley and Me
Bridge to Terabithia
E.T. (well not anymore but it did when I was 4 years old watching it in the theater)
The Fault in Our Stars
United 93
What Dreams May Come

If I really think about it, I could come up with more.

Also, handful of Buffy and Angel episodes (most notably, The Body).
